Expo, in fifth rendition of fair, is nation’s largest horse industry exhibition

The 2018 Horse Industry Expo, which took place at SETEC in Gangnam, southeastern Seoul, from Nov. 16 to 18, served as an opportunity to enjoy diverse exhibitions, performances and horse riding experiences.

Horse Industry Expo, which made its debut in 2010, is the nation’s largest horse industry exhibition. The 2018 Horse Industry Expo, the fifth one held, was organized by Korea Racing Authority (KRA) and hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA).

Exhibitions, transactions and an international symposium took place at SETEC, while events such as horse performances, teenagers’ horse racing championship and homegrown young horse competitions were held at the LetsRun Park Seoul.

A total of 100 exhibitors participated in exhibitions to market diverse items such as horse leisure sport products and pharmaceutical products. Spectators were given the chance to experience horse riding and feed ponies as well as enjoy excited experiences such as the coloring of wooden dolls and making horseshoes.

One thousand spectators, who were interested in horse racing, but could not afford to buy tickets, were given a 50 percent discount for five horse racing round tickets. Youth were given a space to submit job seeking applications as job creation has become a much talked about topic of society.

The LetsRun Park Seoul was the venue of diverse horse culture performances, including a cowboy horse racing show, a horse parade, and a ponies’ performance. KRA Chairman Kim Nak-soon said, “Much efforts have been made so far to offer spectators unforgettable joys and provide industry people with opportunities to share growth.”

Seminar on Promotion of Welfare of Horses

KRA has been making all-out efforts to cultivate the sound horse industry.

International experts were invited at a seminar to promote the welfare of horses at the LetsRun Park Bugyeong on Nov. 15 and at the LetsRun Park Seoul on Nov. 16. The seminar covered topics such Hong Kong’s horse authorities’ horse welfare polices and medical treatment of horses.

KRA established a master plan for the promoting of the welfare of horses in late 2017. KRA is the sole racing authority in Korea by KRA Law, and is under the supervision of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

KRA aims to contribute to the national finances through horse racing, and to promote support projects for fishing and agrarian villages as well as various social activities, with its earnings. Recently, KRA initiated its support of equestrian events as part of its efforts to expand the businesses in Korean horse industry, which had been focused on horse racing.

한국마사회, 서울 도심 ‘세텍’에서 국내 최대 말산업박람회 개최

2010년 첫 시행 후 최초로 강남 도심에서 개최 렛츠런파크 서울에서도 풍성한 문화공연

 
한국마사회(회장 김낙순)는 오는 16일부터 18일까지 3일간 서울 강남 세텍(SETEC)과 렛츠런파크 서울에서 국내 최대 규모의 말산업박람회를 개최한다.

박람회 입장료는 무료이며, 지난 2010년 첫 회를 가진 이래 벌써 5번째 행사다. 말산업 박람회 관계자는 “올해는 최초로 강남 도심에서 박람회가 진행되기에 여러모로 많은 관심과 방문이 예상된다”라고 전했다. 2010년부터 2014년까지는 렛츠런파크 서울에서 2016년에는 경기도 킨텍스에서 말산업박람회가 열렸다.

세텍과 렛츠런파크 서울 두 곳서 개최하며 풍성한 볼거리 제공· 특별한 사전홍보도 함께해

 말산업박람회는 한국마사회가 주관하고 농림축산식품부가 후원하는 행사로 격년으로 진행되고 있다. 사업자 중심의 정보교류로 말산업 활성화를 유도하고 풍성한 볼거리와 체험행사로 말산업에 대한 긍정적 인식을 불어넣고 있다.

회를 거듭할수록 성과도 점점 커지고 있다. 우선 당초 51개에 불가하던 참여 업체 수가 2배 가까이 늘었으며, 관람객도 4000명에서 순수관람객만 3만3000명으로 8배 이상 급격하게 뛰었다. 특히, 2016년에 개최된 직전 박람회는 ‘말산업 비즈니스관’, ‘말문화 예술관’ 등 산업과 문화예술을 아우르는 종합 전시회 형태로 진행되어 방문객은 물론 관계자들로부터도 상당한 호응을 얻었다.

올해도 한국마사회는 말산업박람회를 통해 국내 말산업이 한 단계 도약할 계기를 마련할 생각이다. 산업·문화·교육을 융합함으로써 운영 내실을 강화하고, 행사장도 세텍과 렛츠런파크 서울로 이원화했다.

세텍에서는 전시·판매·체험행사·국제심포지엄 등이, 렛츠런파크 서울에서는 말 공연·유소년승마리그 챔피언십·국산 어린 말 승마대회 등이 진행될 예정이다. 행사 관계자는 “방문자의 편의를 위해 두 장소 간 셔틀버스를 운행할 예정”이라며, “두 곳을 모두 방문한 분들에게는 소정의 기념품도 증정할 생각”이라고 했다.

주요행사를 살펴보면 우선, 세텍 제1전시관과 컨퍼런스룸에서는 박람회 기간 동안 전시·판매·체험 행사가 열린다. 총 100여 개 이상의 업체가 참여하며 승마레포츠, 승마용품, 약품 등 다양한 상품을 만나볼 수 있다. 방문객들을 위한 이벤트도 풍성하다. 어린이 승마체험, 포니 먹이 주기 등 말 체험은 물론, 마장 모형 만들기, 말 목각인형 색칠하기, 편자 공예 등 이색적인 체험 프로그램이 준비되어 있다.

평소 승마에 관심은 있지만 비싼 가격에 부담을 느꼈던 일반인들을 위한 승마쿠폰 할인행사도 진행된다. 1000여 명을 대상으로 하며 승마 5회권을 통상 이용료의 50% 수준으로 구매 가능하다. 일자리 창출이 사회적 화두로 떠오른 만큼, 청년들을 위한 ‘일자리 지원’ 공간도 마련된다. 취업·진로·NCS 세미나와 일자리 특별관 방문을 통해 구직자들은 취업 관련, 다양한 컨설팅을 받아볼 수 있다.

같은 시기, 렛츠런파크 서울에서는 다채로운 말문화 공연이 펼쳐진다. 카우보이 승마 쇼, 말퍼레이드, 포니공연 등이 공원 곳곳에서 진행되며 메인 공연장은 실내승마장이다. 소방관과 말의 우정을 감동적으로 풀어쓴 이야기이며, 1일 1회 공연된다.

김낙순 마사회장은 “방문객들에게는 잊을 수 없는 즐거움을, 업계 종사자들에게는 상생할 수 있는 방안을 제공하고자 그간 많은 노력을 기울였다”면서, “많은 관심과 방문, 참여를 부탁드린다”라고 말을 전했다.

한편, 한국마사회는 말산업박람회의 성공적 개최를 위해 박람회가 개최되는 주에 사전 홍보도 함께 펼친다. 목동, 반포, 대치, 잠실 등 도심지와 학원가가 대상이며 말과 함께 이색적인 홍보 활동을 진행할 예정이다.
