Marathon race takes place in Yeouido, Seoul, with some 10,000 people; Chairman Suh calls for finding new markets from social changes like old age, late married lives and low birth rates

AmorePacific hosted the 2018 Pink Run on Oct. 14 at Yeouido Park in Seoul with some 10,000 citizens from all walks of life participating in the race. The event was designed to be a wakeup call for people to prevent breast cancers by getting medical tests.


The cosmetics firm held the event jointly with the Korea Breast Health Foundation.


Chairman Suh Kyung-bae said the company should find new markets for its cosmetics, sparked by various changes in society such as an aging population, low birth rates, late marriages and people choosing to forego marriage altogether.


He went on to say that an aging society has many negative areas and dangers, but when it is analyzed deeply, it provides many opportunities for business. ¡°The aging and low birth rates present some problems in society, but at the same time, we will be able to find many chances for our products for the aging population and women not getting pregnant too often,¡± he said.


Men, too, are paying a lot of attention to their looks, health and what to wear in particular, partly due to rising incomes, and new markets are opening up to serve people with late marriages and even those who chose to not get married, he said.


The cosmetics firm believes that so the called ¡°Grooming Folks¡± are on the increase, with more men directly visiting cosmetics shops to buy products for themselves, not satisfied with those bought for them by their wives and members of their families.


The market for men¡¯s cosmetics products has been expanding in recent years to as much as 1 trillion won in 2017, especially for skin lotions.
