Samsung Electronics Strives to Grab Leadership in Large-Sized QLED TV Market
Diversifies QLED TV product portfolios for 2018 to 11 models, including four series for 55-inch to 82-inch TV sets

HDR10+, an updated open standard that leverages dynamic metadata to produce enhanced contrast and colors on an expanded range of televisions, which has been introduced by Samsung Electronics and Amazon Video. HDR10+ is available on Samsung Electronics UHD TV lineup, including premium QLED TV models.



The global TV market has shown signs of slower growth, but the market for units larger than 65 inches has continued to surge, rising a whopping 30 percent annually in the recent years. Figures released by the market survey firm HIS Market showed that the size of the global market for 65-inch-plus TV sets jumped to 11.43 million units in 2017, a more than 40 percent rise from 8.08 million units in 2016. The figure is predicted to surge about 47 percent to 16 million units this year.
TV makers, including Samsung Electronics, are scrambling to concentrate their capacities to produce large-sized TV sets. Samsung Electronics has diversified QLED TV product portfolios for 2018 to 11 models, including four series for 55-inch to 82-inch TV sets Q6F, Q7F, Q8C and Q9F. In particular, the Korean electronics giant has focused on adding more 75-inch-plus TV sets to dominate the global large-sized QLED TV market.
Executive Vice President Cho Jong-suk of Samsung Electronics¡¯ Video Display Business said such sport extravagances as the Russia Word Cup and Asian Games are expected to boost the demand for large-sized TV sets. He said the global QLED TV market is forecast to jump twice this year compared to last year and Samsung Electronics will maintain leadership with a focus on QLEV TVs, which drive the global TV market.
Samsung Electronics plans to carry out diverse functions on top of definition suiting large-sized TV sets to meet needs for customers who want to immerse themselves in high-definition content. QLEV TV, produced by Samsung Electronics are outfitted with such functions as a technology to prevent glaring and ¡°HDR2000 to redefine brightness and detail as well as ¡°AI 4K Q Engine.¡±
Samsung Electronics¡¯ QLED TV has received a certificate on ¡°color volume 100 percent¡± from the global size certification institute Verband Deustscher Electrotechische (VDE) for the second straight year.
It means that the TV can express brightness with a maximum of 2000 nits, three time or four times brighter than the conventional TV.

Samsung Electronics showcased innovative display technologies and a new roadmap at the 2018 QLED and Advanced Display Summit that took place at the London Hotel in West Hollywood, Calf., from June 27 and 28.
The event, organized by the U.S. research institute Insight Media, brought together about 100 participants, including representatives from prominent studio, content makers, standardization institutions and display magazines. The summit was divided into five sessions on 8K, Quantum dot, cinema LED, micro LED technology, and HDR10+ and mastering.
SpectraCal, a definition company, demonstrated a function of calibration, newly adopted by Samsung Electronics¡¯ QLED TV, drawing a keen attention from content makers.
