Spectators at the SK Telecom¡¯s booth could be given the chance to experience 5G telecom services to be commercialized next year.
Korea¡¯s largest telecom service provider unveiled an ¡°HD Map¡± that is applicable to an era of 5G telecom services. SK Telecom displayed a map production vehicle to help spectators look at how information on diverse objects is recognized through 5G networks and sensors via a large screen. HD Map is an essential part to ensuring the safety of motorists of self-driving cars.
In January, SK Telecom signed an MOU with HERE, a German location cloud company that offers navigation, real-time traffic information and indoor maps in about 200 countries around the world.
The two companies plan to collaborate in wide business arenas ranging from self-driving technologies to HD map solutions, location-based IoT and other next-generation technologies and services to global business. To this end, SK Telecom will share such core infrastructure as some 7 million cases of dynamic content (hub real-time traffic information), including 5G, IoT network/service, and mobile navigation technologies. HERE plans to offer HD map, super-definition location flank guard solution and global distribution channels.
SK Telecom installed ¡°5G Gallery¡± in which spectators were given the chance to experience conversations with characters in art products via ¡°360 Live Video Telephone.¡± They experienced the fast speed and stability of 5G services from the gallery. SK Telecom stressed the safety of 5G telecom by displaying quantum-safe equipment and technologies. In February, SK Telecom acquired IDQ, the world¡¯s No. 1 quantum encryption company. IDQ, established in 2002, released a quantum random number generator (QRNG) for the first time in the world. Spectators at the ¡°Intelligent Home Zone¡± experienced diverse services related to SK Telecom¡¯s AI platform ¡°NUGU,¡± which set a record for real users in Korea.
They experienced remote voice control of about 10 home appliances, including lighting, air conditioning, and air quality sensors via ¡°NUGU Mini¡± of five colors. SK Telecom demonstrated an IoT network that will connect objects in the era of 5G super connectivity, services related to new IoT network (LTE Cat.M1) suitable to receiving and transmitting of large volume of data, and blood sugar measurement and black box products.
SK Telecom displayed innovative items produced by its cooperative SMEs to nurture the IT eco-system.
