KT introduced 5G mobile telecom services under the theme ¡°Take Off 5G¡± at the World IT Show 2018 that took place at Coex in Seoul. KT¡¯s pavilion used an airport concept by dividing 5G services with such key words as ¡°speed,¡± ¡°start,¡± ¡°global connection¡± and ¡°embarking on new experiences.¡± The pavilion was divided into six zones - the world¡¯s first 5G service, technologies for children, technologies catering only to KT clientele, technologies tailored to meet business customers¡¯ needs, and technologies designed to make Korea clean.
Spectators at the World¡¯s First 5G Service Zone were given a chance to experience 5G services that will make their debut in March. The spectators were able to experience first-hand the speed difference between 5G terminals and 4G LTE.
They also experienced 5G Holograms and real-time sports relay technologies. KT installed a zone in which visitors enjoyed 5G-service-enabled virtual reality shooting game ¡°Special Force¡± and mixed reality-based sport games.
The Technologies for Children Zone offered ¡°TV Inside,¡± an augmentation reality service, which made its debut in May 2017 for the first time in the world. The service allowed its user to appear in TV in person in real time. The 2018 version has added such functions as recording/sharing. English conservation games, and the experiencing of AR books. ¡°My Kid Location Finder,¡± a service to find the exact location children, regardless of them being indoors or outdoors, was demonstrated based on the arrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) technology.
The zone on technologies that cater only to KT clientele highlighted ¡°Giga Jennie,¡± KT¡¯s AI TV-cum KT¡¯s representative service, which set a record for the number of users in Korea. KT released ¡°Giga Jennie 2,¡± an updated version with more diverse colors and a more refined design than the conventional one.
KT also introduced ¡°WHO WHO,¡± the nation¡¯s No. 1 spam blocking app.
Among the eye-catching displays at the zone on technologies catering only to KT clientele were ¡°Giga IoT Smart Building,¡± a solution designed to enhance efficiency of buildings, ¡°KT-MEG,¡± the world¡¯s first integrated system designed to control energy production, consumption and transaction, ¡°Open IoT Platform,¡± designed to offer services related to IoT platform for the interests of its cooperative SME partners, and Korea¡¯s fist AI-enabled machine running Chabot ¡°AIBOT.¡±
Visitors at the zone for car technologies got a glimpse into what it will be like in the era of self-driving cars. ¡°Giga Drive,¡± the first vehicle infotainment platform by a Korean telecom service provider, was on display. They were given the chance to look at KT¡¯s car-related technologies, including the EV Management Solution, an integrated system designed to monitor the charging of EV batteries. The zone on environmental technologies offered ¡°Giga IoT Air Map,¡± an air quality service designed to protect clients from fine dust.
Senior Executive Vice President Yoon Jong-jin, who is in charge of public relations at KT, said the company set up its pavilion so that more people could experience 5G services in advance, demonstrated by KT for the first time in the world via the World IT Show.
