Many spectators at a ballpark recently were glued to their smartphones, which has not become an uncommon sight. They’re turning to their smartphone to review an umpire’s call plays that are so close they cannot be seen by the naked eye from the stands. They’re also reviewing highlights and errors. As smartphones become a go-to item for baseball fans outside and inside ballparks, golf aficionados are expected to follow suite, using their smartphones inside and outside golf courses. The latest move is owed to U+ Golf, which made its debut in April.
U+ Golf has introduced such services as an exclusive telecast of prominent golfers and a review of previous plays. U+ Golf is enjoying popularity among galleries of golf championships. LG U+ held an event to experience U+ Golf services at South Springs Country Club in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, the venue of the KLPGA E1 Charity Open Championship, on May 25.
One person said he previously struggled to follow the ball after it was hit by a player, as his view was often blocked by such obstacles as trees and hills. But U+ Golf’s telecast of golf competitions makes viewing easier, he said. Fans on the move between holes can review golfers’ shots of previous holes.
LG U+ plans to make the U+Golf app available to subscribers of rival telecom service providers for one month starting June 1.
U+Golf plans to launch an IPTV service in July. SK Telecom and KT subscribers are allowed to download U+ Golf app at Google Play Store or ONE Store and use it free of charge until June 31. Starting July, LG U+ IPTV subscribers are allowed to see golf telecasting services as U+ Golf does. An app for iPhone subscribers will be released in August.
Han Seung-ho, head of LG U+ Video Service Team, said apps are designed to offer differentiation services and boost the subscriber clientele base for those who use unlimited data in return for fixed fares.
