Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chmn. Leads Group Collaboration with Chinese Firms
Joins hands with Chinese futuristic tech companies to tap Chinese future car market
The ENCINO compact SUV Hyundai Motor and Beijing Hyundai launched on April 10 to turn around sagging sales in China.
Hyundai Motor Group is teaming up with Chinese futuristic tech companies to tap the Chinese future car market. The group plans to collaborate with the Chinese AI startup DeepGrint, Baidu, one of China¡¯s biggest internet companies, and QQ Music, one of China¡¯s biggest music streaming service companies.
Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun revealed the plan on the sideline of the CES Asia 2018 that took place at the Sanghai New Expo Center on June 13. China is leading mobility technology innovation on the back of Chinese companies¡¯ passion and customers favoring new technology openness, said Vice Chairman Chung, adding that Hyundai Motor will concentrate its capability to develop innovative future mobility technologies.
Vice Chairman Chung is in charge of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors¡¯ collaboration with Chinese companies.
Hyundai Motor announced a plan to jointly develop self-driving technologies with the Chinese startup DeepGrint, established in 2013. DeepGrint owns an AI-enabled image recognition technology, which is getting more important as a core self-driving part to ensure the exact discerning of objects surrounding cars.
Hyundai Motor¡¯s collaboration with DeepGrint will enable the two to not only develop new technologies, but also improve driving functions of the conventional cars, a Hyundai Motor official said.

Hyundai Motor has decided to participate in the ¡°Apollo Project¡± Baidu is implementing as research work on self-driving. Global automakers and automotive parts makers, including Daimler, Ford, Beijing Automobile, Bosch, and Delphi as well as Microsoft, and IT companies are participating in the project.
The project is expected to help Hynida Motor develop self-driving technologies optimizing China¡¯s road conditions.
Kia Motors has decided to join hands with QQ Music, operated by the Chinese IT company Tencent to develop infotainment systems tailored to meet Chinese needs. They will allow the operation of in-house gadgets according to motorists¡¯ voices. For instance, a motorist¡¯s saying he or she feels drowsy leads to opening car windows or automatically replaying exciting music.
