Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SL) participated in the 40th International Environmental Technology and Green Energy Exhibition (ENVEX) held from May 30 to June 1 at Coex, Seoul. Firms from 18 countries numbering 240 in total attended the 10th exhibition this year.
The international event became an opportunity for new businesses in the area of environmental industries with the participation of such leading personnel as Minister Kim Eun-kyung of the Ministry of Environment and the heads of foreign business firms.
SL, as the host of the event, wanted to highlight the importance of hygienic landfill sites and turning them into assets. It also introduced its achievements to create its image as a waste disposal expert organization and spotlight landfills as popular locations.
SL joined SMEs related to the environment to jointly display booths to help them make advances into overseas for operations. They also set up an event zone for the audience to let them understand the importance of the environment so they may have a positive image of SL thru the programs that may be of a great interest to them.
Officials of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Srinivas Sampath, the head of the Civilian Investment Dep¡¯t of ADB and Chung Ok-joo, an expert on municipal planning of ADB, called on SL on May 28.

Srinivas Sampath, head of the PPP Transaction Advisory business at ADB¡¯s Office of Public-Private Partnership and Jeong Ok-joo, an urban planning expert with ADB, tour Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corp. (SL) on June 28 to look into the corporation¡¯s advanced waste treatment and resources recovery technologies.

They wanted to look at the landfill technologies that SL has as they have been known to be among the best around the world. Many developing countries have great interest in landfills and waste disposals.
They praised highly the 2nd landfill site, the 40 Mw landfill gas power plant, the 2nd stage facility for turning sludge into usable assets, and SRF experimental facilities, as an advanced waste disposal management.
They were specially surprised by SL¡¯s ability to turn the 1st landfill site into an environmentally friendly golf course, the Dream CC, when they visited the golf course during their visit.
Smart Cities leverage knowledge solutions for better urban services to create people-friendly and sustainable urban centers. In 2016, ADB committed to supporting India's "100 Smart Cities Mission" through investments in improved services for the poor, including water supply and sanitation.
ADB organized this visit to share knowledge and best practices of smart cities, focusing on water and solid waste management.
More specifically, the activity aimed to provide learning opportunities to officials of the Government of India on the experiences of the Republic of Korea and the Philippines in smart cities development, particularly in water supply and solid waste management, covering technical, institutional, regulatory, financial, economic, and other issues.
The visit also provided the opportunity to showcase the latest ¡°smart¡± technologies for urban development and water sectors consisting of: (i) guided tours of the actual facilities of water and solid waste utilities in the Republic of Korea and the Philippines that have established themselves as best practice organizations in the region; and (ii) a workshop or seminar for knowledge sharing between the delegates, host organizations, the private sector, and other stakeholders. The visit also promoted partnerships and collaboration between and among the government agencies, utilities, the private sector, and ADB.
The Sudokwon Landfill offers smart technology solutions and best practices in solid waste management that can be adopted in other countries in the region.
Sudokwon began with a clear vision for the landfill in the future, the Dreampark, and is working toward achieving that vision, following environment-friendly landfill management processes.
SL Corp. was established in order to promote the landfills for stable and sanitary treatment of wastes from the capital region and contribute to create more comfortable living environment of surrounding areas for residents.
