SK Lubricants Comes up with New Engine Oils Suiting API’s New Standards

SK Lubricants has released new engine oil products whose functions have improved dramatically.
The subsidiary of SK Innovation put on the market five engine oil products for gasoline/LPG vehicles that comply with the newly revised engine oil “SN Plus” standard of the America Petroleum Institute (API).
The new engine oil products for gasoline cars are SK ZIC X7 %W-30, SK ZIC X7 PE OW-30, SK ZIC X7 FE 5W-20, and the two others for LGG-fueled vehicles are SK ZIC X7 5W-30 and SK ZIC X710W-30.
The engine oil SN Plus grading for the developing of the new products took effect on May 1. The new engine oil standard, revised by the API for the first time in 10 years, applies to such areas as the Unites States, the South American continent, Europe and Asia. Engine oil products that have no API certification are banned from selling in some countries.
The latest engine oil products feature improved functions compared to the conventional SN-class counterparts. They are characterized with the improving of a function of protecting car engines by reducing wear resistance at a low-speed in so-called Low Speed Pre Ignition situations.
“Engine oils for the SN Plus standard are suitable for cars outfitted with Turbo Engine (T-GDI or GDI Engine), which is smaller in the size of engine, but yields higher output,” an SK Lubricants official said.
As the API imposes more stringent regulations to prevent engine faults, selecting products conforming to the standards is essential, he added.
The API has imposed and managed engine oil standards since the 1920s. The newly revised regulations, the first one in 10 years, are in accordance with the global strengthening of regulations on environment and engine. It is believed to have something to do with global automakers’ trend of making engines that are getting smaller in size but yield higher output and consumers’ demand for protecting engine and high-efficiency engine oils.
SK Lubricants plans to launch a marketing offensive both in Korea and abroad, particularly focusing on market entry in such countries as China and Russia.

미국석유협회가 10년만에 새롭게 제정한 ‘SN플러스’ 엔진오일 규격에 맞춘 가솔린/LPG 차량용 엔진오일 5종을 개발해 출시

SK루브리컨츠(대표이사 사장 : 지동섭, www.sklubricants.com)는 미국석유협회(API : America Petroleum Institute)가

 10년만에 새롭게 제정한 ‘SN플러스’ 엔진오일 규격에 맞춘 가솔린/LPG 차량용 엔진오일 5종(*)을 개발해 출시했다고 밝혔다.

(가솔린 차량용 : SK지크 X7 5W-30, SK지크 X7 FE 0W-30, SK지크 X7 FE 5W-20 등 3종, LPG차량용 : SK지크 X7 5W-30 LPG, SK지크 X7 10W-30 LPG 등 2종)

이번 신제품 개발 기준인 ‘SN플러스’ 엔진오일 등급은 지난 5월 1일 부로 발효됐다. 이 규격은 미국과 남미대륙, 유럽, 아시아 등의 지역에서  통용된다.

일부 국가는 API 인증을 받지 못한 제품의 수입을 금지할 만큼 엄격히 이 규격을 준용하고 있다.

이번에 신규 개발 제품들은 기존 SN 등급 제품 대비 연비 개선 성능이 향상된 점이 가장 큰 특징이다.

또, 저속에서 엔진이 빨리 점화되는(LSPI: Low Speed Pre Ignition) 현상으로 인한 엔진 내마모성을 줄이는 엔진보호 성능이 대폭 강화됐다.

SK루브리컨츠 관계자는 “SN플러스 규격 엔진오일은 엔진 크기는 작아졌지만, 높은 출력을 내는 ‘터보 엔진(T-GDI 또는 GDI 엔진)’ 차량에 적합하다”며,

 “미국석유협회가 중대한 엔진 결함을 방지하기 위해 규격을 엄격히 규정한 만큼 이에 맞는 수준의 제품 선택이 중요하다”고 말했다.

미국석유협회(API)는 지난 1920년대부터 엔진오일 규격을 엄격히 제정/관리하고 있다. 10년만에 변경된 이번 규격은 전세계적인 환경, 연비에 대한

규제 강화에 따른 것으로 자동차 업체들의 엔진 소형화 및 고출력화 추세와 소비자들의 엔진 보호 및 고연비 엔진오일에 대한 요구를 고려한 것으로 알려졌다.

SK루브리컨츠는 이번 고성능 제품 개발을 통해 국내 시장은 물론 중국, 러시아 등 세계 시장 공략에 더욱 집중할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

‘남녀고용평등 분야’ 우수기업으로 선정돼 대통령 표창을 수상했다. 이날 표창은 김영주 고용노동부 장관이 SK이노베이션 김준 총괄사장에게 수여했다.

금번 시상식은 고용노동부가 남녀의 차별 없이 평등한 근무환경 조성에 앞장 선 기업과 개인을 남녀고용평등 분야, 적극적고용개선조치 분야로 구분,

 선정해 시상하는 것이다. 이날 중소기업중앙회에서 열린 기념식에는 각 분야에서 우수기업으로 선정된 24개사 대표와 유공자 12명이 참석했다.

우수기업 중 대통령 표창을 수상한 기업은 SK이노베이션을 포함해 2개사다.
