¡®2018 Hello, Mr. K!¡¯ an Opportunity for Foreign Students to Experience Korean Performances
Director Kim Tae-hoon of the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS).
The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) is hosting the culture concert series ¡°2018 Hello, Mr. K!¡± targeting foreign students studying in Korea in cooperation with the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation.
The program is designed to introduce Korea¡¯s diverse culture to foreign students here and help them experience convergence performances combining Korean tradition, contemporary culture and IT. The program made its debut in 2015, and 2018 Hello, Mr. K! series will take place in three parts.
The part 1 performance, to be held at the Korea Furniture Museum in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, will invite 60 foreign students staying in Korea and one-person multi-channel network (MCN) creators under the theme of ¡°the daily life of seonbi,¡± known as male intellectuals during Joseon Dynasty.
While entering the gate of hanok, traditional Korean house, participants will see performers wearing clothes of Joseon Dynasty play traditional music instruments, including geomungo and cite poems the seonbi did on their daily life.
Participants will be able to wear hanbok and walking around such places as sarangbang as seonbi did.
The second part performance will take place at the grand auditorium of Yonsei University with about 1,600 foreign students in Korea in their attendance.
The event will showcase traditional Korean music ¡°nongak,¡± a lion¡¯s dance, an LED dance and other performances combining traditional and modern culture.
Participants can sing along or play eight-province traditional music tunes, pansori, and bi-boying, not just appreciating the performances. It will coincide with a special performance by foreign students¡¯ K-pop dancing team selected in an audition contest.
The last part of the performance will take place at Chungnam National University with foreign students studying in the Chungcheong area in attendance.
Unlike last year, more SNS-savvy foreign students and one-person multi-channel network (MCN) creators will be allowed to participate in the 2018 Hello, Mr. K! series. Participants will share the vivid moments of the performances and foreign students K-pop dancing team¡¯s sweating moments of rehearing its performance with global followers of social network services in real time.
Foreign students who are online opinion leaders will be given a chance to experience convergence performances and expand communications over one-person media, a KOCIS official said. The culture concert series will serve as an opportunity to publicize the gems of Korean culture to the world, he added.
