Korea Water Resources Corp. conducted a special water management education to cope with climate change at its K-water Manpower Training Institute in Daejeon Metropolitan City from April 2-6.
K-water held the event for the second time this year. The first was held last year at the request of World Bank with some 30 water management experts from 5 countries attending, including India and Bangladesh.
Unlike last year, both water resources and sewerage experts attended the event this year, although only the water resources experts got the education.
Major contents of the training consisted of learning how to forecast the weather to cope with the climate changes through simulation. They learned how to forecast the temperature, the rail fall, the changes in reservoirs, water consumption and other factors as correctly as possible so that they are trusted by many people, considering various factors that may come up.
They also took a tour to look around at various round-shaped experimental equipment, the largest such kind in the country, to test the safety of a dam against earthquakes and the experimental plants for the tap water and sewerage systems designed to test-run the clear water treatment technologies.
K-water is a Korean multi-sectoral water services provider that has been dedicated to water management. With its own ICT-based smart water management, K-water will tackle various water problems by providing IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) services over the whole process of the water cycle.
SWMI (Smart Water Management Initiative), an IWRM model involving in the whole process of water cycle that was designed by K-water, helps improve the reliability, soundness and efficiency of water management with ICT-based water management systems all over the water cycle, which ranges from water sources to end users. K-water.
With its own advanced smart water management practices and technologies, K-water has faithfully been doing its part as a government-owned water management corporation which provides IWRM services all across the national water industry, and further leads the global water supply.
POSCO Humans started its solar power business in 2013 with Korea Water Resources Corporation in order to provide a framing system for a floating solar power system. Currently, the company is carrying out projects in the structural and EPC sectors.
POSCO Humans received excellent evaluations for its steel structures that were built for solar facility installations, the use of PosMAC materials for solar power generation, and its eco-friendly floating solar power systems.
In particular, POSCO Humans received high marks for securing superior technology in its PosMAC profile including a structure used exclusively for floating solar power generation facilities and exclusive bolts that utilize PosMAC.
In particular, the PosMAC profile is a bolt-assembled structure that eliminates the need for hole machining and special tools. Therefore, the PosMAC profile garnered attention as a cost-saving product that can greatly cut back on installation time.
Based on this technology, POSCO Humans also conducted other energy-related projects including a floating solar power system at Boryeong Dam (2.0Mw) in South Chungcheong Province, a land solar power system (1.0Mw) in Shihwa Lake, a water purification plant in Siheung (0.4Mw), and a pumping station at Gwangmyeong for the Korea Water Resources Corporation (0.6Mw). In the future, POSCO Humans will develop its solar EPC business into new next-generation business areas and plan to provide its customers with total solution services such as business feasibility studies, design, construction and post-construction operations.
