The Korea Atomic Power Annual Conference 2018 (KAP 2018) that will take place at the BEXCO in Busan from April 25 to April 26 brings together approximately 700 nuclear power experts, including those from host Korea, the United States, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the Czech Republic and the World Nuclear Association (WNA). KAP 2018 is being held at the juncture when countries adopt energy policy changes. The conference adopts the theme ¡°A Time of Change, Nuclear Energy for Tomorrow¡± to discuss what the nuclear industry has to take in accordance with new national energy policy direction and what future course nuclear power will take.
KAP 2018 consists of an opening session with key-note speakers in attendance and three panel discussion sessions on topics: Nuclear Safety and Public Confidence,; Glocalization of Nuclear Industry; and Decomissioning Waste Management.
At an opening session, Chairman Chung Jae-hoon of the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF), concurrently president of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), delivers an opening address, following commemorative speeches by vice ministers of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Keynote speakers of the opening plenary are President Chang Soon-heung of Handong Global University, who speaks on the current status and prospects of the nuclear power industry; President Chung Ho-wan of Pusan National University, who touchs on ¡±Manpower Development in the Ra of the 4th Industrial Revolution¡±;
Maher Alodan, chief atomic energy officer of K.A. Care of Saudi Arabia who speaks on Licensing, Construction Circumstances and Constraints for European NPP Market,¡±, Prof. Michal Mejstrik, of IES, Charles University, Czech Republic who speaks on Nuclear Power and Central European Electricity Market Now and Future,; and President Jose Gutierrez of Westinghouse Electric Company, who speaks on NPP Export Strategy in a Time of Change.¡±
During a special session that takes place on April 26, eight experts, including Chair Park Sang Doug of Seoul National University, Ji Gwang-min of KEPCO KPS, ex-KEPCO Vice President Lee Hee-yong, and Chang Moon-hee of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, will be engaged in free discussions on the topic ¡°A time of Change, Nuclear Energy for Tomorrow.¡±
KAP 2018 coincides with the International Nuclear Energy Korea (NIEK) 2018 that takes place at the BEXCO from April 25 through April 27. About 110 exhibitors, including KHNP, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, KEPCO E&C, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, KEPCO KPS, and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, and Westinghouse, showcase their latest technologies and products during the exhibition.
The exhibition also host global leaders on decommissioning technologies from France and Germany and meets with Korean counterparts, KEPCO KPS and KEPCO Nuclear Fuel also participate in an exhibition of nuclear power R&D outcomes. to discuss ways of promoting cooperation in the sector. KAP 2018 also has such side events as a nuclear power equipment purchase session, KHNP¡¯s explanation session on shared growth, a one-on-one export consultation session with invited foreign buyers, and other educational programs, including the one on decontamination and decommissioning for nuclear facilities.
KAIF¡¯s annual meeting has been taking place every April in celebration of the commercial operation of Kori Nuclear Power Unit 1 on April 4, 2078. It is an international forum designed to present and discuss the pending issues in the nuclear power sector to promote information exchanges for the development and promotion of the Korean and global nuclear power industries. KAP 2018 was the 33rd rendition of the annual meeting.
