Under stewardship of President Lee Bae-soo, KEPCO E&C is accelerating efforts to ramp up technology development investment in keeping with the government¡¯s energy policy paradigm shift, management systems to expand overseas market presence, and risk management capabilities as well as to aggressively pursue regional cooperation as a public entity in Gimcheon, a hub of the innovative city of Gyeongsangbuk-do. As part of these efforts, KEPCO E&C President Lee singed an MOU on energy multidisciplinary and convergence businesses based on advanced ICT with KT on March 21.
Among those present in the signing ceremony held at the KT Gwanghwamun Office in downtown Seoul were KEPCO E&C President Lee,; Yoon Gyeong-lim, head of the Future Convergence Execution Office at KT, and Kim Young-myung, chief of the Smart Energy Business Division at KT.
The deal calls for both companies to jointly develop energy convergence and multidisciplinary businesses, energy management systems for power generation units, and technologies to realize smart power generation. KEPCO E&C, based on ample experience on the design of power plants and technology power, plans to explore such new businesses as combined power heat & power, new/renewable energy power generation EPC, O&M, and energy efficiency projects in cooperation with KT.
The two companies plan to promote mutual cooperation in ¡°Plant EMS,¡± a power plant energy management system combining KT¡¯s advanced ICT technology. Plant EMS is a system of computer-aided tools used by operators of electric utility grids to monitor, control, and optimize the performance of the generation and/or transmission system.
KEPCO E&C plans to help Plant EMS realize smart power generation based on IoT, big data and AI in connection with KT-MEG, KT¡¯s integrated energy management platform. KEPCO E&C President Lee said, ¡°(It) will serve as an opportunity to achieve technology innovation by employing both companies¡¯ core capabilities and technology power.¡± KEPCO E&C will cooperation in diverse areas with KT to expand the tapping of new energy businesses and secure future growth engines, he added.
Under the agreement, KEPCO E&C¡¯s execution experience of diverse plant EPC and O&M and energy management capabilities based on KT¡¯s energy management system based on advanced ICT are expected to have synergetic effect.
KEPCO E&C Rated as 2nd Class Excellent Entity in Integrity
KEPCO E&C became one of the 2nd class category of excellent entities committed of promoting integrity in a 2017 survey conducted by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission. The integrity survey has been done annually since 2002. In 2017, the commission conducted an integrity survey of 256 organizations, including central government agencies, on 39 tasks.
KEPCO E&C received better outcomes evenly in all survey task categories and achieved a remarkable achievement of rising from 4th class grade category to 2nd class- excellent category by two slots.
KEPCO E&C has been out to spread in-house awareness toward integrity and strengthened in-house surveillance system to prevent malpractices. The company has been credited with exploring areas considered to be vulnerable to malpractices on a voluntary basis and overhauling regimes. KEPCO E&C has been given good evaluations in showing executives and staff members¡¯ determination to put into practice ethic management and establishing the international integrity management standard ISO 39001, conducting companywide integrity and ethics activities, integrity programs with regional communities, and spreading of awareness toward integrity.
