Korea Electrical Safety Corp. (KESCO) recently began to use its ¡°non-suspension¡± power meter checking system to reduce economic losses from power suspension when checking power meters.
Such major industries as petrochemical, steel, and semiconductor could incur huge losses if power is switched off even for 0.1 of a second and the new system developed by the company will preclude such losses and still allow electricity meters to be checked.
KESCO started work on the development of the Power On Inspection (POI) System in 2004 and completed it last year and put it in use from July this year for the first time in the world.
KESCO believes that the use of the POI in key industries can save billions of won annually, in addition to earnings from exports of the new system overseas.
The company also plans to repair the power grid systems around towns and districts where poor families live to prevent damages to people and property.
Starting next year, the company will repair the electricity supply equipment in small residential house clusters where the danger of electrical mishaps is greater. Mishaps in power supply systems could spark fires, which can then spread to the entire cluster, quickly causing enormous losses not only of property but also of human lives.
From next year, the company will use 2 billion won in support funds from the government to repair the power grid systems in 2,800 of the 8,374 small house clusters around the country and expand the project to all clusters of small houses in the country in about 40 regions thereafter.
Electricity is one of the greatest products of civilization and the most convenient and useful energy source for humans. However, the risk of electrical accidents increases as electrical equipment becomes increasingly complex and diverse in the rapidly changing living environment of modern society.
Since its establishment in 1974, KESCO has led in the area of electrical accident prevention through its investigation into, research on, technology development for and promotion of electrical safety as well as inspection and checking of electrical facilities as the nation¡¯s electrical safety agency. It is also accelerating the development of new growth engines such as the smart grid business as well as the cultivation of overseas markets as a disaster control agency.
KESCO is doing its best for customer service management based on its corporate culture with top-notch technologies, advanced equipment, and passion, while striving to be the world¡¯s top electrical safety company under the themes of ¡®Leader in Electrical Safety,¡¯ ¡®Happy Customers,¡¯and ¡®Exhilarating Workplace.¡¯
