People around the world were impressed with KT¡¯s demonstration of the world¡¯s first 5G technology services during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics from Feb. 9 through Feb. 25. KT presented advanced 5G technologies and convergence series once again this time during the Mobile World Congress 2018 that opened on Feb. 26 for a four-day run in Barcelona, Spain.
KT shored up its leadership in the 5G technology sector by showcasing the latest 5G technologies and convergence services during the Mobile World Congress 2018.
True to the theme ¡°Experience the World¡¯s 1st 5G, KT,¡± spectators at the KT pavilion during the latest mobile fair were given the chance to get a glimpse of how an upcoming era of 5G network will look.
The 5G broadcasting relay service offered during the Mobile World Congress 2018 received a good reception from spectators by transmitting videos being taken via drones in real time. The service highlighted 5G¡¯s special features like super speed and super connectivity.
One of the eye-catchers was ¡°Special Force VR: Universal War,¡± adopting KT¡¯s own wireless VR transmitting technology that allows a long-distance server to activate game content and people to enjoy games via head-mounted display.
KT¡¯s developing anti-juddering technology on its own has contributed to dramatically reducing dizziness, a major woe that has dogged VR games. Also on display at the KT pavilion were mini-chain technology that can register, search and delete data; GiGa drive, a platform on in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) for 5G-based self-driving cars; and GiGA eyes, Korea¡¯s first platform for intelligent video security.
Among VIPs who toured the KT pavilion were King Felipe VI of Spain; GSMA Secretary General Mats Granryd; Minister You Young-min of the Ministry of Science and ICT; and Chairman Lee Hyo-seong of Korea Communications Commission.
KT presented the direction of the development of the 5G and KT¡¯s preparations on 5G at the Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Press & Industry Briefing, one of the major events of Mobile World Congress 2018. Experts at the pavilion showed a keen concern on KT¡¯s ways of commercializing 5G on top of the expertise related to the demonstrating of 5G pilot services. Asked about details, including coverage, KT showed expertise and confidence the company has obtained while demonstrating 5G pilot services.
Earlier, KT gave a briefing on the outcomes of KT¡¯s 5G pilot services demonstrated in February to chief strategy officers of global telecom service providers at the GSMA Strategy Group that took place from Feb. 23 to Feb. 24. At that time, KT showed a timeline on KT¡¯s declaration of 5G vision on the Mobile World Congress 2015, three-year preparations and the application of 5G trial services, receiving a good reception from the audience.
GSMA Secretary General Granryd delivered a keynote speech in which he lauded KT¡¯s demonstrating of 5G trial services. Granryd said he experienced 5G trial services offered during PyeongChang Winter Olympics for the first time in the world.
He cited the time slice technology via cameras installed in several locations of sporting venues and looking into the development of games on real time via tablet PC, saying that he was feeling as if he was playing in the games.
KT¡¯s digital care solution and platform won the Best Mobile Innovation for Health in the 23rd Global Mobile Awards ceremony. KT, which strives to digital care business as one of its future growth engines, is implementing a digital care solution and platform, dubbed ¡°m-Hospital,¡± in six countries, including Kazakhstan, Russia, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, KT met with senior officials of the AfDB and the Republic of Benin and discussed ways of promoting cooperation.
The meetings focused on collaboration on the forming of e-government regimes with the AfDB, a key player responsible for building African infrastructure. ICT Minister Aurelie Adam-Soule of the Republic of Benin spoke on the topic ¡°Building Regulator Skills to Encourage Innovation.¡± He alluded KT¡¯s contribution to development of Korea¡¯s digital economy and expressed hope the experiences and expertise will be transferred to the Republic of Benin.
