Samsung Electronics’latest smartphone, the Galaxy S3, has surpassed the 20 million mark in the number of units sold globally 100 days after making its global debut on May 29. It means that an average of 200,000 Galaxy S3 units have been sold on a daily basis.
Galaxy S3 joined the list of “10 million sellers” 50 days after its release.
Galaxy S3’s surpassing the 20 million mark in 100 days is three times faster than Galaxy S2, which saw its cumulative number of units sold shatter the 20 million mark in nine months.
The 20 million units include 6 million units in Europe, 4.5 million units in Asia, 4 million units in North America, and 2.5 million units in Korea, indicating an even regional distribution of sales in the global smartphone market. In particular, sales have picked up in such regions as North America, Europe, and China of late.
The impressive performance of the Galaxy S3 has turned out to be the driving force behind Samsung Electronics’maintaining the No. 1 position in the global mobile and smartphone market.
