For the duration of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympics, Gangwon Province, the "2018
National Disabled Persons Are One Culture and Arts Festival" will act as a
venue for disabled youths attending special education schools from around the
country to take part in culture and arts exchanges with disabled persons.
¡à
This event will become a venue for an authentic "Cultural
Paralympics" for the successful hosting of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympics
scheduled to start from March 9th.
¡à
For 5 days from March 12th through the 16th, 750 special needs students and
staff from 52 special education schools from across the country are invited to
the venue for the Winter Paralympics to view Paralympics matches, to take part
in culture and arts exchanges, and to experience the regional culture of
Gangwon Province.
¡à
In particular, the disabled students that will take part in the event, will
play a central role in cheering on the athletes as part of the ¡°Ice Breakers¡±
cheer squad and by viewing and cheering at events at the Paralympics, they will
demonstrate a ¡°festival where all become one.¡±
The
Health, Welfare, and Gender Equality Director, Jang Shi-taek revealed how she
hoped that the cheer squad made up of disabled youths hailing from special
education schools across the nation known as the ¡°Ice Breakers,¡± by cheering
their slogan of "Cheer for 2018 with one passion!" will create a
passion for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympics that will spread a message
nationwide that instills hope and courage into the hearts of disabled youths.
