LG U+ has demonstrated a ¡°smart drone management system¡± to monitor and manage a sea mustard farm in Songjeong-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan.
The telecom service provider revealed a process to monitor the sea environment of an area surrounding the sea mustard farm using a drone outfitted with environmental sensors. The drone, flying off an inlet in Songjeong-dong, gathered data on such information as water temperatures and dissolved oxygen and transmitted them to a control system. A drone manager also demonstrated a process of removing harmful floating materials by shifting the drone into ¡°manual¡± mode.
Coastal farms have long suffered from phenomena as ¡°red tide¡± and harmful floating materials. They have had trouble monitoring the environment of coastal seas. But using sea drones now makes it possible to monitor and react to environmental changes.
LG U+ employed a combination of an LTE cloud control system and sea drone. The drone is capable of self-flying, transmitting images and being remotely controlled. It can fly for a maximum of six hours above the sea with waves at less than two meters.
The LTE-controlled sea drone system is part of ¡°Uplus Drone Total Service Package¡± the telecom service provider has released.
LG U+ participated in the 2018 Drone Show Korea that opened in the same day at Busan Bexco and unveiled the drone total service package. The package included Specific LTE Drone, cloud drone service, and operation & management service.
