Samsung Asset Management Clinches 2017 Dasan Financial Gold Award

Samsung Asset Management Co. won the 27th Dasan Financial Gold Award in the sector of asset management in recognition for the Samsung affiliate¡¯s reformative products, systematic management, and outstanding risk management.

Samsung Asset Management Co.  is lead by President Koo Sung-hoon and it is the largest asset management company in Korea with assets totaling over 220 trillion won. The company has been working for its investors under its slogan, ¡°Investment that wins for everyone,¡± providing services centered around its investors.

 The slogan is meant to support a management system suitable to support the success of its core businesses. 

The company¡¯s ¡®Samsung KODEX¡¯ and Samsung ETF, with net assets amounting to 18 trillion won, already share over 50 percent of the ETF market in Korea.

The Samsung Korean-type Target Date Fund has already collected over 300 billion won, although it was launched in April 2016. 

TDF is a retirement pension fund whose amount is decided by the asset management company near the time of retirement.

The firm provides services to individuals and institutional investors. It launches and manages equity, fixed income, and balanced mutual funds for its clients. The firm also manages hedge funds for its clients and invests in the public equity and fixed income markets across the globe. 

The firm employs fundamental analysis with a bottom-up and top-down stock picking approach to create its portfolios. 

It employs a combination of in-house and external research to make its investments. Samsung Asset Management Co. Ltd. was formerly known as Samsung Investment Trust Management Co., Ltd. The firm was founded on September 15, 1998 and is based in Seoul, Korea. Samsung Asset Management Co. Ltd. operates as a subsidiary of Samsung Life Insurance Co., Ltd.

Samsung Asset Management has been taking measures to strengthen its global management as it has been expanding its operations into such strategic locations as New York and London through operational tie-ups with renowned global asset management firms to introduce its products that are suitable to the investors.

The company has been able to expand its overseas assets to over 1 trillion won. Samsung Asset Management Co. has established a strategic alliance with Edmond de Rothschild Group, a leading financial group based in Geneva, Switzerland. The asset management arm of Samsung Group announced on Tuesday that it will strengthen its cooperation with Rothschild Group in Korean and European capital markets.

The two signed a memorandum of understanding on the cross-sale of their funds as part of a strategic alliance. Samsung Asset Management plans to launch a European dividend stock fund soon. Rothschild will be in charge of advising Samsung Asset Management while the Korean company¡¯s London branch will manage the fund.

The asset management company will complete its European fund lineup by launching a European corporate bond fund for investment into funds managed by Rothschild in Europe. These two newly-launched funds will be promoted as main public funds of the Korean fund house boosted by Rothschild¡¯s management know-how and well-established network.

Rothschild aims to set up an Asian equity fund in Luxembourg in the latter half of this year that will be managed by Samsung Asset Management. 

By utilizing its European sales network, the company wants to expand its sales to institutional investors across Europe.
