LG U+ declared its ambition of becoming a top leader in the mobile, home media and corporate markets in a ceremony to kick off the 2018 business year on Jan. 2. To this end, Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo suggested five steps to reinvent his company¡¯s corporate culture.
The five steps involve promoting mutual communication; reporting based on core substance, rather than in superficial formality; crating a positive environment by conducting a campaign to encourage staff to send thank-you messages; sharing love with neighbors; and rethinking how people interact at after-work get-togethers to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
Starting this year, LG U+ will encourage people to ¡°call horizontally¡± to lend an ear to people¡¯s problems and promoting a freer atmosphere. The move is designed to enhance work efficiency and explore creative ideas. Staff members are required to write a one-page report with content in half sans formality of form, shape of character, and color.
They are advised to write the report in a very specific way that includes not using abbreviated words and describing core information in a narrative format, thus minimizing efforts in the formality and process. The move is designed to promote the use of ¡°simple¡± reporting, removing formal sentence structures.
LG U+ plans to encourage staff members to join the ¡°111 Thank-you Plus¡± campaign that calls for them to send thank-you messages to each other once per day and make it part of their daily life. LG U+ executives and staff members take time to join the ¡°U+ Volunteering Service Time¡± to convey and share an appreciation for their neighbors every Friday each month.
They are advised to refrain from after-work get-togethers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the goal of spending more time with family members on Wednesdays, and taking a rest on Fridays.
LG U+ Vice Chairman Kwon has been lauded for introducing a ¡°pleasant office team¡± system, designed to promote a pleasant and happy work environment. Under the program, executives and staff are advised to join the ¡°Don¡¯t & Do¡± campaign, calling for them to refrain from tweeting about work after 10 p.m., among others.
In his e-mail message delivered to executives and staff on Dec. 1, Vice Chairman Kwon said, ¡°In 2018, competition in new industries, including 5G and AI, will happen in earnest, and market players are expected to play a tight match.¡±
He stressed the need to seize the opportunity to emerge victorious in two sectors, which will hinge on the competitiveness of the future. He wants to secure 5G and AI technologies related to the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution as new growth breakthroughs.
On Nov. 30, LG U+ carried out a reorganization, calling for the inauguration of a 5G group and putting the AI business division under the direct control of the CEO.
Regarding the inauguration of the 5G group, he said, ¡°(We¡¯ll) closely study such matters as the establishment of frequency strategies and coverage investment by concentrating all our capabilities, and making preparations to provide differentiation services based on 5G.¡±
Meanwhile, LG U+ became the first Korean telecom service provider to receive an ¡°energy champion¡± certificate from Korea Energy Agency.
The KEA introduced a system to give incentives to companies which contribute to preserving energy on a voluntary basis.
