President Moon Jae-in hosted a New Year¡¯s dinner at Cheong Wa Dae with invited representatives from several walks of life in which he promised ease polarization by creating good jobs and focus on eliminating societal gaps.

¡°I wish the New Year will be one in which each sector of society, including tripartite talks among labor, management and government circles, will have full-blown dialogue,¡± said President Moon.

Moon disclosed his determination to solve long-standing social conflicts, caused by low birth rate, aging population, low growth rate, and bipolarization. The Chief Executive said the government will concentrate its capabilities so that people can see their lives improve this year. The President Moon government, marking its second year in office, is determined to attach policy focus on the national economy and public livelihood for the improving of their lives.

About 245 representatives from the National Assembly, parties, the judicial branch, the central government, local governments, economic, labor, cultural and arts, and civic circles were present at the dinner.

Participants from the business community included Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Yoon Boo-keun, Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chung Ui-sung, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and LG Group Vice Chairman Koo Bon-joon. Among heads of economic organizations, except the Korean Federation of Industries (KFI), were Chairman Park Yongmann of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Chairman Park Byung-won of Korea Employers Federation, Chairman Park Sung-taek of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, and Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Korea International Trade Association, and Chairman Kim Tae-young of the Korea Federation of Banks.

Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) participated in the meeting, but the chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) did not attend it. The radical labor federation KCTU is apparently trying to distance itself from the President Moon government, so rough sailing is expected in the upcoming tripartite talks among labor, management and government circles.
