Kyobo AXA builds up a strong presence in the ETF market based on experience managing index funds
As the largest index fund management company in Korea, Kyobo AXA Investment Managers armed itself with experience in index fund management and its strong client base as it prepared to make its presence felt in the ETF market.
Kyobo AXA has so far listed two products, the Power K100 ETF and Power K200 ETF, which track the KOSPI 100 and the KOSPI 200 respectively. Park Chan, index and quant division director at Kyobo AXA Investment Managers, said, ¡°Although we have not constructed a lineup of our products yet, we managed to build up the size.¡± Total net assets of Kyobo AXA amounted to 862 billion won as of September, according to the Korea Exchange¡¯s monthly ETF report.
Park revealed plans to list company-unique ETFs in the near future, beginning with bonds and followed by stocks. Upon request to comment about strategies and direction Kyobo AXA pursued, Park was careful in his statements. He said, ¡°After a year and a half in the ETF market, our firm is still in the learning stage. We plan to decide on our course of growth after releasing new products and studying market reactions closely.¡±
He estimated that full-scale development would begin in three to four years. With a strong foundation in index fund management, growth of Kyobo AXA is expected to be promising.

Prior to joining Kyobo-AXA, he worked as derivatives trader of Korea Investment & Securities and Samsung Securities. He earned a bachelor¡¯s degree from Korea University.
