¡°Hodam Sanyang San Sam (Wild Cultivated Ginseng) Makkoli,¡± a traditional rice wine mixed with a Wild Cultivated Ginseng ginseng root, produced by Daenong Bio, won the Presidential Award at the Korea Traditional Wine Grand Festival.
The festival, held at At Center in Seoul on Nov. 24, was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corp.
Awards were presented for traditional wines in five areas. They were selected after careful evaluations by experts on Korean traditional wines, which included in-person inspections of the wineries to further add to the fairness of the evaluations.
Daenong Bio also won awards in 2014 and 2015 in the areas of Chong and Yak wines, both of which are purer rice wines. The company also won two gold awards for its Monde Selection of the World Wide Evaluation in 2015 and 2016.
Daenong Bio has been able to export its Tong Wine, made with whole Sanyang Mountain Ginseng roots, and Chunhyang Makkoli, made with fermented Sanyang Mountain Ginseng roots, after getting U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. It was the first a Korean wine maker for FDA approval.
About 40 tons of Tong Wine and Chunhyang Makkoli, valued at $100,000, were sold in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas, Daenong Bio said. Daenong Bio has been a leading grower of the Saessak vegetables, selling more than 10 billion won worth of the product annually. It supplies them to such large supermarket chains as Nonghyup, Lotte Mart and Lotte Super .
The company has been a leader in supporting regional cultural events. From last year, the company has been providing support to Pung-ryu-ae, Leading Professor Maestro Namgoong Jongae, who is the public relations ambassador for Daenong Bio.
The company also supported the Loyal Music Concert at the Senior Citizen Welfare Hall in Kwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, on Oct. 19, to lead the public campaigns Respect the Old and Loyalty to Parents.
