KPX Participates in Power Supply Emergency Drill
Public and private organizations join forces during drill designed to nurture capabilities to cope with diverse disasters

Officials from Korea Power Exchange as other public and private organizations participate in an emergency drill designed to cope with diverse disasters.


A drill involved the swift restoring of the power grid in accordance with the emergency response manual for the power sector through collaboration with KEPCO, power companies and other related organizations under the assumption that power supply is in an emergency situation with multiple disasters involving blackouts in a metropolitan area and the abrupt stoppage of power generators, caused by gas supply stoppage. 

Public and private organizations, including the Safety Department of the Naju City government, the Naju Fire Station, the Bigaram 119 Safety Center, homeland reserve forces leaders and anti-disaster volunteers, participated in the drill, raising its magnitude and significance. 

KPX President Yoo Sang-hee said, ¡°We¡¯ll do our utmost to make sure a sable power supply to people by repeating this drill to continue to nurture capabilities to cope with diverse disasters down the road.¡±

Program to Share Energy Knowledge 

KPX implemented a program to transfer Korea¡¯s advanced power system operation technology and experiences to power industry experts from seven Central and South American countries in Nov. 2.

The program, part of the Word Bank¡¯s Green Growth Knowledge Exchange Project, invited 26 power industry and government officials, including the energy minister of El Salvador and chairman of ABRACE, Brazil¡¯s largest industry power consumption association. The latest program was the third of its kind following the ones in February and May. 

The curricula of the program included the introduction of the status of KPX, the current status of the Korean power industry and power grid operation, a tour of the Central Power Control Center, the new energy industries, new and renewable energies, and smart grid policies. 

Making the most of the program, KPX plans to continue to expanding support to Korea¡¯s entry into developing countries, and the program will serve as an opportunity for Korea to publicize the excellence of the Korean power market, power grids and Korean power industry, KPX officials said.

In the meantime, KPX offered an education program for Mongolia¡¯s National Dispatching Center (NDC) from Oct. 26 to 27. The educational program was the third of its kind since the first one in December 2015. The program is offered in accordance with an MOU KPX signed with the NDC, calling for regularizing the educational program. Participating in the latest program were seven power officials from Mongolia, including senior officials from companies specializing in power markets and the operation of power systems.
