Shinhan Financial Group Continues to Pursues Social Services
With 'Compassionate Finance' as its motto for its corporate social responsibility in particular to help economically depressed families

30(Fri), Nov, 2012

"Compassionate Finance is Shinhan¡¯s Commitment,¡± is the Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s pledge, with over 20,000 officers and staff and a diverse network both at home and overseas, a foothold for its customers¡¯ successes in their endeavors and social progress.
The financial group has been taking a step-by-step approach to realizing the pledge to do its best to minimize inconveniences for its customers.
Officials of the group said all of the group¡¯s employees and officers should serve the customers from the position of the customers in order to better understand them and should execute their social responsibility to help the socially isolated.
The financial group has been at work doing its best to help society in three ways¡Æ¢âco-existence, mutual appreciation, and mutual survival.
The Smile Financial Foundation set up by the group is a means to send its message of mutual existence through Shinhan Card, Shinhan Financial Investment, and Shinhan Life by chipping in to fund the foundation. The foundation has given away 30.5 billion won to various social causes since 2009.
Under ¡®Mutual Appreci-ation¡¯ comes such social works as the preservation of traditional culture and support to photographers and sports. Its most representative work was the ¡°Relay for Love of Cultural Properties.¡± Since 2008, the group has selected 50 cultural properties around the country to maintain and restore through the efforts of 4,000 of its employees engaged in providing all kinds of care for them. Shinhan Card gave support to the recovery of Kunchong Palace in Seoul, the preservation of inns on Nam Islet off the south coast, and the provision of support to schools teaching cultural traditions and preservation through the collection of funds via an Internet homepage (www.arumin.co.kr).
¡°Mutual Survival¡± is designed to awaken an awareness of the importance of the environment. Shinhan Bank has been hosting a nationwide environmental photo exhibition annually since 1994 and is the only bank to give support to environmental protection movements with the support of the Environment Ministry.
Chairman Han Dong-woo said the group has been named the best enterprise in the Dow Jones Sustainable Management Index among Korean financial groups for three years in a row, adding, ¡°We still have many things to augment as a financial group. And we shall work to continue to uphold the possible sustainable future of finance for the sake of society and customers.
