Marking the 10th anniversary of the LS College Student Volunteer Service Group, LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol (Christopher) participated in volunteer programs with college students after attending the completion ceremony of LS Dream School No. 7 in Hai Duong Province, Vietnam, on Jan. 19.

The ceremony took place in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, with 20 key officials, college student volunteers and 200 local students, such as Chairman Christopher Koo, Kim Gon-joong, vice president of COPION, a non-profit organization carrying out community development projects in developing countries, and Luong Van Cau, vice chairman of the Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee (PPC), in attendance.

Chairman Koo watched a performance given by elementary school and college student volunteers and videos celebrating the 10th anniversary at the event. He also offered scholarships and donated bookshelves and books. On the same day, the completion ceremony of LS Dream School No. 8 was held in Vĩnh Long Province, which is located near Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, attended by president of LSCV, a Vietnamese subsidiary of LS Cable & System. The 19th LS College Student Volunteer Service Group arrived at Hai Duong Province on the 11th and carried out education, science and labor volunteer activities for 12 days.

Koo delivered a welcoming speech, saying, ¡°LS has been able to become No. 1 power and communication cable maker in Vietnam thanks to support and attention from the Vietnamese government and people within 20 years of the company entering Hai Phong City in 1996. In return for such growth, we will continue to increase the investment and employment and carry out corporate social responsibility activities in the future, and make an effort to maintain the partnership between Vietnam and LS for more than 100 years.¡±

The CSR activities of LS Cable & System are based on its corporate philosophy, the ¡°LS Cable & System Way.¡± The company¡¯s foundational CSR values are known as ¡°C.O.R.E.¡±

¡°We are always there for our customers (Customer First), all employees share the same spirit (One LS Cable & System), and we are socially responsible (Rule & Responsibility), with expertise (Expert),¡± according to LS Cable & System.

LS Cable & System has been sponsoring voluntary corps of university students who travel abroad to participate in a variety of service-oriented projects since 2007.

The members of the voluntary corps consist mostly of university students, NGO experts and LS Cable & System employees. Together they work to help improve the educational environments for children in India, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries and engage in fun-filled cultural exchange activities. LS Group is reaching out to new fields of business, as well as new markets, worldwide.

As a developer of electric power transmissions and telecommunications systems, materials and machinery, LS has long invested in cutting edge technologies.

In 2009, LS Cable & System built submarine cable construction facilities in Donghae, Gangwon. Submarine cables are essential to producing alternative energy and transferring electricity between countries, so developing the technology has been prioritized.

The corporation also possesses superconduction technologies. In 2004, Korea became the fourth country in the world to have these capabilities, thanks to LS Cable & System¡¯s efforts. The achievement was especially notable since Korea was late to develop superconductors relative to other countries. LSIS, another affiliate, has been investing in high voltage direct current technologies.

Since 2013, it has been the preferred provider of technological expertise to KAPES, a joint venture co-established by Korea Electric Power Corporation and Alstom, a French company. This technology is especially important because it allows a large volume of electricity to be transferred across a long range, minimizing electricity loss and maximizing efficiency.
