In his New Year¡¯s message, President Park touches on management tenets on the necessity of communication and collaboration amongst different walks of life to build new ICT eco-system

SK Telecom President Park Jung-ho accelerated efforts to spread the ICT eco-system as he toured the booths of innovative companies and discussed ways to promote cooperation at the Consumer Electric Show (CES) 2017 that opened in Las Vegas on Jan. 5 for a four-day run.

President Park visited the pavilions of five 5G leaders, including Samsung Electronics, Intel, Ericsson and Qualcomm, to commercialize the world¡¯s first 5G services, and discussed ways of promoting comprehensive collaboration with them on Jan. 5. He had multifaceted discussions designed to ante up collaboration in the development of handsets, equipment and services for the introduction of the world¡¯s first 5G services. 

On Jan. 6, Park looked around the booths of companies specializing in self-driving cars, artificial intelligence, robotics and other innovative technologies at the Tech West Exhibition Hall. He discussed ways of promoting cooperation with companies in AI and connected car segments on top of the IoT. He visited the booths of companies with prominent technology power in the AI, VR/AR, and smart homes. He also had in-depth discussions with innovative IoT companies. 

Park signed an agreement on business partnerships with NDIVIA, a graphic card company, during the tradeshow. NDIVIA will use data from SK Telecom¡¯s T-Map Service in the development of self-driving technologies the former is developing. He agreed with Intel officials to cooperate in the development of G5 and self-driving technologies. Park¡¯s activities at the CES 2017 are part of his management tenets on the necessity of communications and collaboration with several walks of life to build up the new ICT eco-system. 

In his speech at a ceremony to kick off the 2017 business year, President Park called for the No. 1 leadership based on innovation and a win-win approach for shared growth to create a new industry arena and make SK Telecom Korea¡¯s representative ICT company to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution. 

¡°An era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, in which all things are connected and converged, is an overall competition that goes beyond borders and boundaries,¡± President Park said. 

He called for innovative new business models by surpassing the conventional competition paradigm and building a new area to create global growth.

Park stressed the strengthening of SK Telecom¡¯s corporate culture and making SK Telecom a company that pursues premier service and product technologies. 

Specifically, Park called for the provision of services to and products differentiate it from others from a customer¡¯s perspective in the mobile network operator segment. In the IoT segment, he said SK Telecom will explore innovative services and products in connected cars, energy management solutions, and smart homes by combining all ICT capabilities with SK C&C, SK Hynix and other subsidiaries of SK Group. 

In the media/home segment, Park said that SK Telecom will secure content worth global value though massive investments and collaboration with diverse operators while exploring such new business models as ¡°Total Home Solution.¡±

In the platform segment, President Park urged his executives and staff members to create top-class platforms that can penetrate the global market by mobilizing in-house and subsidiary capabilities with a focus on such competitive business models as T-Map, T-Telephone and the artificial intelligence service NUGU.

President Park, stressing mutual openness and cooperation during an era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, said SK Telecom would present a leading and innovative agenda in such new ICT areas as A.I., self-driving automobiles, robotics and quantum technology. 

SK Telecom announced on Dec. 11 that SK Holdings C&C Chief Executive Officer Park Jung-ho has been appointed as the new President and CEO of SK Telecom.

Since joining Sunkyong Group (which is now SK Holdings) in 1989, Park has served various key positions within the SK Group. From 2009 to 2013, he served as head of the Business Development Division of SK Telecom and later played an integral role in SK Telecom¡¯s acquisition of Hynix (later named as SK Hynix). 

In January 2015, Park took the CEO position at SK Holdings C&C. Known for his global experience, innovative leadership and keen insight, he has successfully transformed the business structure of SK Holdings C&C, while expanding the company¡¯s presence in the global market.

As the new CEO of SK Telecom, Park is determined to achieve growth and innovation through a new level of ICT convergence by combining mobile telecommunications, the Internet of Things, media, platform and semiconductor, the company says. Moreover, he will focus on developing a new growth engine by accelerating SK Telecom¡¯s transformation into a strong ICT platform player, while contributing to the build-up of an enriched ICT ecosystem.

Park received a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Korea University.
