Doosan Heavy and Construction Co. clinched a thermal power project worth 2.8 trillion won from the state-owned power company in the Uttar Pradesh State, northern India, the company said on Dec. 26.
The company said its local subsidiary, Doosan Power System Co. operating in India, got the NOA from the Uttar Pradesh Power Co. recently to take care of the thermal power plant project involving the construction of two thermal power plants in Uttar Pradesh State. An official contract for the project is slated to be signed within a month¡¯s time, the company said.
The deal consists of two separate projects to build four coal-fired power plants, according to the company.
Under the deal, the South Korean firm will build two 660-megawatt power plants at India's Obra-C power station by 2020 and an additional two plants in Jawaharpur by 2021. The project is exemplary of Chairman Park Ji-won¡¯s drive to seek new project markets for the company away from the Middle East. Doosan Heavy won the hard fought competition for the thermal power construction project worth some 3 trillion won, which sits in the center region of Indian history and culture, officials of the company said.
Doosan Heavy is counting on the project to help the company win additional projects in the power plant market in northern India, they added.
The project will bring the company¡¯s total orders won in 2016 so far to 5.9 trillion won, putting the company on a path to win over 9 trillion won worth of project orders for the year, the heavy industrial company said.
The company¡¯s 5.9 trillion won worth of orders are in a variety of countries, including Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Egypt and Indonesia.
Uttar Pradesh State has a total population of some 200 million and the most famous Indian historical legacy and the symbol of India, Taj Mahal, is located there.
This year Doosan Heavy expects to secure the highest new orders receipt figures since 2011¡¯s 10.1 trillion won of orders. The company is ready to strengthen plans to clinch more orders in the country¡¯s thermal power plant market, which is projected to average around 18 GW in new coal-burning power plant orders annually until 2020.
