LSIS Recognizes Core Smart Energy Tech as Sustainable Growth Engine
Company declares the new mission ¡®Futuring Smart Energy¡¯

LSIS, which last year declared the new mission ¡°Futuring Smart Energy¡± aims at splashing out on multidisciplinary and convergence smart solutions, combining its own exclusive technology in the conventional power and automation sectors to become a global super-heavy electric maker.

To this end, the company is focusing on localizing core technologies through R&Ds and securing future growth engines to secure sustainable growth.

In January 2015, LSIS dedicated an eco-friendly, intelligent building based on the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) at the company¡®s R&D campus in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, as part of efforts to beef up R&D capacities. Each operation in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do for power, and one in Cheonan, Chungcheonnam-do, for automation has a separate specialized R&D lab. Its R&D center in Shanghai was relocated to the business site in Wuxi to have synergetic support effects at the production site. LSIS is the industry¡¯s first public entity to operate its own power testing R&D lab to raise technology reliability.

LSIS has set aside five to six percent of its annual sales for R&D investments. Last year, the company poured about 112.5 billion won into its R&D outlay, accounting for 6.4 percent of its sales. The figure is up about 3 percent over last year¡¯s 109.8 billion won.

LSIS¡¯s efforts to ramp up R&D capabilities have paid off. LSIS became the first company to win a Green Technology Certificate. LSIS had made it to the list of the global ¡°Top 100 innovative companies¡± picked by Thomson Reuters, the world¡¯s largest consulting company, for the fifth consecutive year.

Its intellectual properties are on the rise. The company owns a combined 3,816 patent and design IPs , including 3,731 IPs overseas as of the end of last year.

LSIS is not sparing efforts to invest in securing core technologies in new industries, which can lead to the strengthening of actual business capabilities.

In 2014, LSIS launched the nation¡¯s first smart-grid brand ¡°Gridsol.¡± The company has secured technologies tailored to meet clients¡¯ needs, including Factory EMS, BEMS, and Home EMS (HEMS), which enable the optimal operation of the company¡¯s energy total solutions.

LSIS is saving 10 percent to 25 percent of energy consumption by having its R&D campus in Anyang (for BEMS). Cheongju¡¯s plant (for FEMS) adopted with its own technology EMS. The company, recognizing the energy conservation sector as one of its core future businesses, decided to make massive investments to secure emerging markets ahead of other rivals. It has been devoting itself to building reliability and systems and securing operation capabilities by having each plant adopt with EMS and securing it as a business reference.

LSIS, making the most of the BEMS and FEMS that the company commercialized, is stepping on the gas to strengthen its presence in Korea and abroad in energy efficiency businesses in such areas as industrial facilities, which account for about 60 percent of each building¡¯s energy consumption, to large-size buildings, department store buildings and other structures.

LSIS¡¯s R&D campus has been certified as the nation¡¯s first structure to adopt the BEMS by Korea Energy Agency last March. The company proved its BEMS technologies and energy efficiency effects by ranking second among the top 30 participants in the first Asia Pacific Intelligent Greemn Building Alliance, a green building public contest held in June.
