LS Group conducted a regular personnel move on Nov. 29 involving two vice presidents, Lee Hak-sung of LSIS and Doh Seok-koo of LS Nikko Copper Refinery getting promoted to presidents of their respective companies among the four CEOs replaced, the group said.
Total number of personnel involved in the move came to 31 including the newly-created LS Group Manager for Technology Strategy Sector, who is designed to head the R&D unit for the group.
Officials of the group said this year¡¯s regular personnel reshuffle involved 31 director-level officials, an increase from 20 who were involved last year. The figure is higher this year due to the group¡¯s policy to train more officials for leading positions in the area of technology management, in particular.
President Lee Hak-sung was promoted for his contribution to the R&D sector as Chief Technology Officer, and he will be responsible for overall R&D as the CTO in charge of technological strategy.
President Doh- Seok-koo was promoted in recognition of his contributions to turning around the operation of LS Nikko Copper Refinery to generate profit. Also involved in the personnel move were the CEOs of four of the group¡¯s affiliates, including LSIS, LS Mtron, Gaon Cable and LS Global who were replaced. Vice President Myung Noh-hyun was named to head LSIS alone, no longer sharing the CEO position with Vice President Yoon Jae-in in the personnel move.
Vice President Yoon Jae-in was named to head Gaon Cable as president and CEO, while Vice President Kim Yeon-soo of Gaon Cable was promoted to president and CEO of LS Mtron. Vice Lee Ik-hi of LS Mtron was promoted to head LS Global as president and CEO. LSIS has been busy of late.
It has been selected together with global corporations such as GE, Alstom, and Schneider as a business operator in pushing ahead with the establishment of an eco-friendly independent island, gaining equal footing with global top corporations in the Asian MG (Microgrid) market.
With LSIS having been selected recently as business operator in the MG establishment project to be implemented on the southern part of Singapore¡¯s mainland, power infrastructure head of operations (vice president) Won-Il Kim announced last September, that he signed a business cooperation MOU with Kristen Sadler, manager of the government-funded agency Energy Research Institute established at the Nanyang Technological University.
Singapore has pushed forward the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator business to establish Semakau Island into an independent energy MG island by taking the lead at Economic Development Board since last year.
This project will divide Semakau Island into four sectors and selecting individual business operators, establish four MG sites using each participating corporation¡¯s own technology, and then operate by binding into a single power system, proving to be the leading concept of Smartgrid business.
Out of the four sectors, ERI as the supervisor of this business, GE-Alstom consortium, and Engie-Schneider consortium have been selected for each sector, where LSIS was selected exclusively as the business operator for the last sector. From the 25th to the 27th, the Singaporean Government and ERI hosted the Asia Clean Energy Summit event on Semakau Island for the purpose of promoting this project, where LSIS was the only corporation from Asia to be invited as MG business operator to the MOU signing.
Following this, LSIS will manage one sector, not just directly operating and managing smart energy technology such as MG Energy Management System, Energy Storage System, and solar/wind power solutions, but also establishing a commercial operation demonstrating a site that enables co-management with other corporation MGs.
