Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO) is one of the nation¡¯s power companies that was established under the 2001 scheme of restructuring the domestic power industry. It is charged with developing power resources and ensuring a stable electricity supply.

KOMIPO made the list of Excellent Quality Competitiveness Enterprises in 2016, which was recently announced by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS).

KOMIPO now operates six power plants, including the Seoul Thermal Power Plant, the nation¡¯s first thermal power unit, and the Boryung Thermal Power Complex, the nation¡¯s biggest thermal power complex. The power company, continuing to invest and explore such eco-friendly industries as photovoltaic power and other renweables, has a power facility capacity of 8,337MW and takes up a 10 percent share in the nation¡¯s total power generation.

KOMIPO has been praised for spearheading diverse field quality management initiatives like the operation quality circles designed to prod staff members¡¯ voluntary participation. These efforts have paid off: KOMIPO has established itself as a legitimate quality-management enterprise. KOMIPO has been selected as one of Excellent Quality Competitiveness Enterprises for the 10th consecutive year. Previously, the company also won the 2014 National Quality Management Grand Prize and the presidential award in the 20111 National Quality Managements Awards.

KOMIPO¡¯s quality management activities, deriving from staff members¡¯ ideas, including ¡°My Love, My Machine Campaign¡± and ¡°3D Electronic Teaching Plan,¡± have led to the scientific operation of facilities. Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO) has become the first Korean power company to log no shutdowns for 6,000 consecutive days at its thermal power plant.

The Boryung Thermal Power Unit 3 set the world record for no shutdowns at 2:56 p.m. on Sept. 27, reaching 17 years and 10 months since the last shutdown on Dec. 17, 1998. The plant received a certificate from the U.S. World Record Academy, one of the world¡¯s top three world record certification institutions. KOMIPO is hitting the accelerator to explore markets. The power company chalked up 20.5 billion won in overseas business revenues last year by exporting a succession of plant construction and operation technology projects.

Starting with the Cirebon thermal plant construction and operation project, KOMIPO is implementing several overseas coal-fired plant projects, including undertaking the O&M (operation and maintenance) 1,320-MW Tanjung Jati Coal-Fired Power Plant, also in Indonesia, and the operation of Thailand's 110-MW Navanakorn Combined Cycle Power Plant. The Korean power company is supplying about 7 percent of a combined electricity supply to Java Island, Indonesia, which is grappling with a shortage of electricity.

KOMIPO is expected to reap a combined 600 billion won in net profit and 20 billion won in annual operation revenues for 30 years, by operating power plants in Indonesia.

KOMIPO is faring well in the overseas new and renewable energy sector, including hydroelectric power and wind power. KOMIPO has become the first Korean power company to export hydroelectric power plant technology. The power company dedicated the Wampu Hydro Electric Power Plant (three units each with a capacity of 45MW) and put it into commercial operation this past April. KOMIPO is expected to reap 100 billion won in revenues from the operation of the plant for 30 years.

KOMIPO has established the ¡°Vision 2030 Business Strategy¡± and laid a platform for sustainable growth to take preemptive measures to cope with a paradigm shift in energy industry in the wake the Post-2020 Climate Change Regime and rapid changes in the power market, including the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The company is committed to implementing economic, social and environmental responsibilities in keeping with demands of the times with the goal of rising to a global top class energy company.
