Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) accounts for 9.8 percent of the nation¡¯s total annual power production. The power company operates the Dangjin, Ulsan, Honam, Donghae, and Ilsan thermal power complexes, while aggressively implementing fuel cell, photovoltaic power, wind power and other new and renewable energy projects, as well as overseas initiatives.
True to ¡°Vision 2030, calling for being the ¡®Most Valuable¡¯ Power Company¡± by 2030, unveiled in 2013, EWP has established specific goals becoming a solution provider, raising power generation capacity to 22,800MW, increasing operating profit to 1 trillion won, and joining the list of ¡°1st class integrity.¡± The power company is devoting itself to innovating the creation of values to upgrade its quality management levels. These efforts paid off last year. EWP has solidified its foundation to be a global energy public entity that is beloved by the people. The power company was awarded the presidential prize in the National Quality Management Convention last year.
Under the stewardship of new EWP President Kim Yong-jin, the company has adopted the catchphrase ¡°Innovation Leader, Energy World Pioneer¡± to speed up the realization of the company¡¯s vision. Now the company is firing on all cylinders to realize management¡¯s tenets innovating its mainstay businesses; future creation; performance-oriented; and trust and happiness management. EWP aims at advancing to the level of a ¡°Great Company.¡±
EWP President Stresses Voluntary Innovation
Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) President Kim Yong-jin delivered his inaugural speech in which he called for a nimble, creative corporate culture to cope with future changes. The EWP president took office as the sixth CEO of the power company at the EWP headquarters in Ulsan Metropolitan City on Jan. 26.
In his inaugural speech, EWP President Kim said, ¡°Globally, the energy industry paradigm is changing fast.¡± Demand for eco-friendly energies is mounting across the globe, as the post-2020 climate change regime that made its debut late last year picks up steam, whereas the thermal power industry is losing its foothold.
The latter industry could be a victim of progress, Kim said. ¡°We have to be more concerned with how much we can innovative when the energy industry paradigm now change, not an issue of whether we innovate or not,¡± Kim said. In this context, the EWP president called for the creation of a flexible, creative corporate culture and systems to cope with future changes.
¡°If there are barriers obstructing convergence and connection among members, we¡¯ll have to dramatically break down them,¡± said Kim, adding, ¡°We¡¯ll not be negligent in investing into nurturing world-class manpower specializing in convergence.¡±
Stressing the need for a creative corporate culture, Kim urged his officers and staff members to innovate the way they carry out their duties by incorporating the world¡¯s top-rated flexible, creative system and software to the power company¡¯s best smart office in Korea.
WP is attaching priority to ensure integrity as one of its core values. The power company has been awarded with the top rating in the integrity evaluation of public entities conducted by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) last month for the fourth consecutive year.
EWP Focuses on Complying with Government 3.0 Initiative; Win Smart Work Top Prize from Ministry of Interior and Top Integrity Prize from ACRC
EWP is devoting itself to be reborn as a reliable power company, beloved by people. The power company became the first public entity to introduce a smart office, complying with the Government 3.0 Initiative.
EWP, whose headquarters has moved to Ulsan, is aggressively striving to spread the spirits of the Government 3.0 Initiative — transparent government; capable government; and government offering services. To this end, the power company has finalized six core tasks, including the exploration of services tailored to meet clients¡¯ needs; sharing of resources; expanding of collaboration; the establishment of a system of sharing knowledge through cloud computing; and 16 detailed action tasks via a public contest held last December.
EWP is trying to explore such services, impressing people as a pilot program to build an agricultural farm utilizing warm water that is emitted from the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex.
Major clients of the program are agricultural organizations wanting to establish agricultural cooperatives or build and construct agricultural farms. Dangjin Well and Ever Green Farm have been chosen as final contenders of the project. EWP is going into high gear by securing financial resources for the implementation of the project, designed to help farmers save 1.4 billion won annually per 10 ha by busing the waste head from the power plant, compared to the using of kerosene as an energy source.
The power company is providing information on biomass to would-be SMEs and corporate suppliers when it augments biomass fuel consumption to comply with the government¡¯s renewable portfolio standard (RPS).
In line with the launch of ¡°an era of Ulsan,¡± EWP has become the first public entity to introduce a smart office to spur creativity, create a horizontal corporate environment and enhance communication and cooperation between EWP executives and staff. A smart office refers to the converging of advanced IT technologies and gadgets designed to dramatically improve work productivity by allowing employees to work at any place in an efficient fashion, departing from the conventional method of working in a fixed place.
