Korea East-West Power Co. is the most active power company among 21 institutions and organizations, including Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO). They are participating in the Global Electric Power Tech 2016, pledging to set up an export platform of heavy electrical machine and power industries and help SMEs make inroads into the global market.

Three hundred and seventy-two exhibitors from 24 countries opened 584 booths during the exhibition that took place at the COEX in Seoul from May 11 to 13. The exhibition is the nation¡¯s largest heavy electrical machine fair. The Korea Electronics Engineers Association and KOTRA jointly host it with the goal of promoting the development of the Korean heavy electrical machine and power industries, and exploring related overseas markets.

EWP and other supporters have offered a helping hand to 100 SMEs specializing in smart grid, power transmission, power distribution, and nuclear power plant equipment and components who want to explore foreign markets.

The Global Electric Power Tech has served as a channel to land projects worth a combined $5 billion; export $500 million worth of heavy electrical machines and components; six cases for vendor registration; and seven cases of large- and small-sized companies¡¯ joint entry into foreign markets in the past five years.

EWP¡¯s Accompaniment with SMEs

EWP is the first Korean power company to establish a consultation committee of entrusted SME businesses designed to provide support for helping its cooperative SMEs grow into global ¡°hidden champions.¡±

Eighty-three companies in five regional spheres sit on the consultative body designed to exchange technology and information and promote cooperation among members.

This has earned EWP the best institution of the consultation committee of entrusted SME businesses from the Small and Medium Business Administration last year.

EWP has implemented 358 cases of joint research with SMEs between 2004 and 2014. In 2015, for the eight straight year, the power company was selected as the best public entity to carry out the largest number of joint research tasks with SMEs.

In particular, EWP implemented more than 70 pilot projects to test-operate SEMs¡¯ products at power plants between January 2011 and October 2015, helping SMEs earning 56.1 billion won in sales. An on-line purchase consultation session EWP introduced for the first time since it was relocated to Ulsan has received a good reception from its cooperative SMEs.

EWP Focuses on Complying with Government 3.0 Initiative

EWP has been designated as one of the 28 public entities that has implemented best practices of the Government 3.0 Initiative by the Ministry of Interior. The power company became the first public entity to introduce a smart office, complying with the Government 3.0 Initiative.

EWP, whose headquarters has moved to Ulsan, is aggressively striving to spread the spirit of the Government 3.0 Initiative transparent government; capable government; and government offering services. To this end, the power company has finalized six core tasks, including the exploration of services tailored to meet clients¡¯ needs, sharing of resources, expanding of collaboration and the establishment of a system of sharing knowledge through cloud computing, and 16 detailed action tasks via a public contest held last December.

EWP is trying to explore such services, impressing people as a pilot program to build an agricultural farm utilizing warm water that is emitted from the Dangjin Thermal Power Complex. Major clients of the program are agricultural organizations wanting to establish agricultural cooperatives or build and construct agricultural farms. Dangjin Well and Ever Green Farm have been chosen as final contenders of the project. EWP is going into high gear by securing financial resources for the implementation of the project, designed to help farmers save 1.4 billion won annually per 10 ha by busing the waste head from the power plant, compared to the using of kerosene as an energy source.
