President Choi Gye-woon of Korea Water Resources Corp. (K-water) said K-water is the nation¡¯s No. 1 new and recycled energy company and is about to crack the world energy business with its energy development projects including solar, tidal and wind power, which the company is set to undertake in the near future.
He said the World Water Forum held in Seoul in April last year was a big occasion for K-water to let the world know about its expertise in the energy development areas, especially when it comes to taking on various energy development projects and water management using loT with SMART water management technology.
K-water is in the middle of talks on exports of SMART water management technologies with its counterparts in a number of countries around the world including Chile, Indonesia, Peru, Thailand and others. The company has also been playing a dominant role in the water management areas in Asia through the Asia Water Committee, which the company helped to set up.
Iran is one of the countries which suffers from a shortage of water as its rainfall only averages 228 mm annually. Iran plans to invest $4.3 billion annually to build infrastructure to contain the rainfall.
At the present time, Iran is building 88 dams and has been conducting feasibility studies on 170 more dam projects in the country. K-water plans to build some of the dams in Iran when the country opens its dam construction projects to foreign construction companies.
K-water is also taking up the projects other than those related to water management. The company plans to build a theme park, the Songsan Green City International Theme Park to be built in Hwasung, Gyeonggi Province, on 4.2 square kms of land, about 1.5 times bigger than Yeouido Islet in Seoul, at the cost of some 5 trillion won. It is targeted to open in 2020.
CEO Choi is confident that the project will be successful, although some are worried that K-water has too much debt left over from the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project. His confidence in the project stems from the fact that President Park promised to restart the stalled project in her presidential campaign, and K-water will provide the land as part of its investment in the project. In addition, a large Chinese travel agency, CTS, located in Hong Kong, will hold a stake in the project as a member of the consortium, showing that there is no concern in attracting the Chinese tourists to the theme park.
K-water has more than 40 years¡¯ of experience in managing water resources and regional water supply systems. ISO9001/14001-certified and a member of the United Nations Global Compact, K-water is committed to environmental responsibility and transparent and ethical governance as means of optimizing its long-term performance and finding new ways to maximize water resource utilization through efficient management and the development of core technologies.
Water resource facilities: K-water operates 12 multipurpose dams, an estuary barrage, and other facilities that satisfy national requirements for flood control, water supply and hydropower generation. For each river system involved, K-water has implemented an integrated water management system that ensures water quality and the protection of ecosystems.
Overseas projects: K-water has served Cambodia, Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, Mongolia, Vietnam and other overseas clients in the areas of wastewater rehabilitation, hydropower development, new water supply systems for housing developments, water resource infrastructure expansion, procurement services and more. K-Water has recently undertaken a collaborative project with Indonesia and Network of Asian River Basin Organization (NARBO) to improve water quality in the Citarum river basin.
