Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) President Kim Yong-jin delivered his inaugural speech in which he called for a nimble, creative corporate culture to cope with future changes.
The EWP president took office as the sixth CEO of the power company at the EWP headquarters in Ulsan Metropolitan City on Jan. 26.
Kim is well known as an expert on public entity policies and innovation as he has held public entity innovation, budget, personnel management and financing positions at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance while serving as a public office holder for some 30 years.
Born in 1961, Kim graduated from Sungkyunkwan University Education Department and University of Birmingham Graduate School Economics Department in 1997. He served as the head of the Regional Development Planning Team at the Presidential Committee on Regional Development (PCRD) before he was appointed to be the EWP president.
In his inaugural speech, EWP President Kim said, ¡°Globally, the energy industry paradigm is changing fast.¡± Demand for eco-friendly energies is mounting across the globe, as the post 2020 climate change regime that made its debut late last year spoke for it whereas the thermal power industry is seeing its foothold fade away. The heady industry could fall behind changes of the times, Kim said. ¡°We have to be more concerned with how much we can innovative when the energy industry paradigm now change, not an issue of whether we innovate or not.¡±
In this context, EWP President Kim called for the creation of a flexible, creative corporate culture and systems to cope with future changes.
¡°If there are barriers obstructing convergence and connection among members, we¡¯ll have to dramatically break down them,¡± said Kim, adding, ¡°We¡¯ll not be negligent in investing into nurturing world-class manpower specializing in convergence.¡±
Stressing the need for a creative corporate culture, Kim urged his officers and staff members to innovate the way they carry out their duties by incorporating the world¡¯s top-rated flexible, creative system and software to the power company¡¯s best smart office in Korea.
Second, he urged his officers and staff members to secure technology competitiveness in the power generation sector. ¡°Supplying electricity in a stable, economical and eco-friendly fashion is our mission,¡± EWP President Kim said. The future of EWP hinges on the dedication and successful operation of Dangjin Thermal Power Units 9 & 10, said Kim, adding that the power company will have to create a model of constructing and operating units for the standing of Korea¡¯s first 1,000MW thermal power plants. EWP will strive to make EWP a power company without breakdowns, industrial accidents and pollutions through endless technology innovation as well as one supplying the most economical electricity through endless productivity innovation. He promised to provide full support so that a master plan on technology management EWP established last year can be implemented.
Third, he called for securing momentum for sustainable growth by developing trend-setting projects.
Fourth, EWP President Kim stressed the power company¡¯s full implementation of responsibilities as a public entity to gain public trust.
Finally, Kim emphasized innovation on a voluntary basis. He urged his officers and staff members to adopt innovative thinking and be armed with determination to overcome difficulties to achieve goals.
