Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Strategy and Finance Yoo Il-ho and other newly appointed cabinet members vowed to devote themselves to accomplishing the foremost state tasks top four reform measures.
President Park Geun-hye presided over a cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae on Jan. 19 in which the newly appointed ministers, including MOTIE Minister Joo Hyung-hwan, and Minister Lee Suk-joon of the OPC under Prime Minister, participated.
Deputy Prime Minister-MOSF Minister Yoo said, ¡°I feel a heavy responsibility on my shoulders over the external and internal economic challenges. The economic team, including myself, will make throw our soul and heart in accomplishing top four reform measures and rejuvenating the economic dynamics.¡±
New Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Joon-sik said,¡± I¡¯ll do my best to implement education reform the way people want and to realize social integration and people¡¯s happiness.¡±
New Minister Hong Yoon-sik of the Ministry of Interior said, ¡°I¡¯ll do my utmost to implement all pending state affairs, including making the Government 3.0 Initiate part of my daily life, the realization of residents¡¯ independence, globalization of the Saemaul Movement, and the fire management of the upcoming general elections.¡±
New Minister of Gender Equality and Family Kang Eun-hee said, ¡°I¡¯ll devote myself to ensuring gender equality in Korea, making all family a happy society and preparing for youth¡¯s bright future.¡±
President Park said, ¡°I expect you to provide a shot in the arm to the cabinet by demonstrating the careers and capabilities you have so far accumulated as much as possible.¡±
In a speech at his inauguration ceremony at the Government Complex in Sejong City on Jan. 13, Deputy Prime Minister-Minster of Strategy and Finance Yoo said, ¡°The Ministry of Strategy and Finance will have to stage a hand-to-hand fight to make reform a success. The ministry should lend an ear to all voices beyond its role as a strategic headquarters.¡±
He stressed the need to make the drastic approach of reviewing unsolved issues when it comes to coordinating policies with complex conflicts of interest.
Government to Boost Exports
New Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Il-ho presided over the 1st Ministerial Meeting on the Economy in 2016 on Jan. 21, and discussed plans to increase trade with Iran as well as policy priorities to be pursued this year.
The following is a summary of Deputy Prime Minister Yoo¡¯s keynote address:
¡°The new economic team puts job creation the highest on its agenda, and will continue to work on structural reform and economic innovation to achieve the goal.
¡°First, we will remove obstacles to economic growth and job creation by successfully carrying out the reform of the labor, public, finance and education sectors.
¡°Second, we will continue to promote the development of new growth engines in the creative economy.
¡°Third, we will boost domestic demand and help exports recover, which will lead to job creation.
¡°The new economic team will earnestly do its part to pass bills on labor reform and economic revitalization in the January extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
¡°In February, the government will announce measures to boost investment in promising new industries, such as sports industries, bio-health care industries and sharing economy industries, along with measures to help corporations with difficulties entering new growth engine markets.
¡°The government will draw up measures to support promising consumer goods industries by March, which will cover cosmetics, agricultural products, baby supplies and clothing, in order to help those industries best utilize the Korea-China FTA and participate in the $6 trillion Chinese consumer market.
¡°The new economic team will work hard to strengthen exports this year, and every measure to improve exports will be discussed at this meeting, from market exploration to support programs. We will begin with trade with Iran.¡±
