Since its split from Kookmin Bank in 2011, KB Card has focused on the check card operation business, and won first place in the 2015 Customer Satisfaction Check Card Sector. At same time, the credit card firm topped the popularity index in college student polls for credit cards in the country by collecting 28.8 percent of the affirmative votes from 1,400 college students that participated in the survey.
The check card cleared some 12.573 trillion won for settling payments for users in 2011, 18.492 trillion won in 2012, 19.466 trillion won in 2013, 22.126 trillion won in 2014. Payments settled with a Kookmin Bank check card amounted to 12.238 trillion won in the first half of the year, cementing its position as the top check card provider in the market.
The credit card firm has been introducing various services to make its users comfortable in using its cards. One of the services is insuring its card holders for up to 100 million won in maximum insurance coverage for any accidents and illnesses that occur during flights, including high altitude sickness, injuries sustained, any other sickness during flights, damages to handphones, kidnapping during flights, among others.
The credit card operator also added a cash advance service of up to 300,000 won to the check card so that the customers can withdraw up to 300,000 won with their check cards.
Another service added to the check card is access to payment services through Visa, MasterCard and Union Pay so that its customers can use their cards at any shops, hotels, and restaurants, which are members of those payment brands.
The credit card firm also issued check cards tailored to people of certain ages, based on their needs and lifestyles. Special cards include the check card Playing Around for those in their 20s and 30s, the card Bonuses for those in the 30s and 40s, and for those in the 50s and older, there is the check card called Golden Life.
Among those cards, Playing Around has been the most popular, one with some 7 million new cards issued since it was launched in 2010, followed by Bonus at 1 million cardholders since it was issued some 14 months ago.
The KB Card gives back 0.5 percent of every won spent in reward points called the Pointree. That alone is not very attractive, since many other credit cards have 1 percent or higher reward rates. But with KB Card, you¡¯ll get 20 percent of what you¡¯ve spent at family restaurants like VIPS, Outback Steakhouse, TGI Friday¡¯s, etc (up to 200,000 won a month, i.e. 40,000 points maximum); 20 percent of purchases at any coffeehouses like Starbucks, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (up to 20,000 points every month); 10 percent for Yes24.com online bookstore (20,000 points max); 10 percent for Ticketlink.co.kr purchases (20,000 points max) back in Pointree points.
