Celebrating its 48th anniversary, K-water declared the 2016 management tenets calling for innovative water management to overcome drought and to make a global resurgence.
K-water President Choi Gyewoon announced the 2016 management tenets at a ceremony to mark the company¡¯s 48th anniversary, in which all executives and staff members were present at the grand auditorium of the K-water headquarters in Daejeon on Nov. 16.
In a presentation during the ceremony, President Choi talked about achievements K-water made despite many hardships, crediting labor and management being united by agreeing to introduce a wage peak system for all staff, finalizing ways of solving debts stemming from the construction works involving the top four rivers in Korea, and K-water¡¯s topping of a management evaluation of public entities.
But Choi urged his executives and staff members to devote themselves to turning to innovative water management to cope with the drought that will hit all parts of the nation next spring, in accordance with the 2016 management tenets creation of values, confidence-building among stakeholders, and nurturing of future growth engines.
President Choi spelled out the top nine key tasks K-water will implement next year. In an effort to overcome the impending drought, K-water will focus on such tasks designed to making the most of water resources as maximizing of water from the top four rivers in Korea the Hangang River, the Kum River, the Yeongsan River and the Naktong River, improving water flow rates of regional tap water pipes in the drought-hit areas in Chungcheongnam-do, connecting waterways for dams, double-tracking tap water networks in metropolitan areas and enhancing capabilities of multipurpose dams.
K-water will turn to such tasks as the construction of small dams recommended by regions, desalination facilities and new underground dams as parts of efforts to secure new water resources, as well as the establishment of water management regimes, including the legislation titled the Act on the Basic Water Management.
K-water will drive management innovation measures to solve massive debts stemming from the construction of the projects associated with the top four rivers in Korea, the implementation of leading tasks to comply with the government¡¯s plan to put public entities on the right track, improve ¡°old tap¡± water facilities, and establish a global corporate culture based on a smart work environment.
K-water will attach priority to expanding ¡°smart water¡± city projects designed to improve the quality of tap water, implement a water welfare system to eliminate areas vulnerable to poor water services, implement international theme park plans and re-examine overseas projects.
