SBC Pushes Globalization of SMEs
SMBA and SBC co-hosts 1st SME Consulting Conference with 350 experts attending including Chmn. Yigal Erlich of Israel

 The Small and Medium Business Administration and the Small and Medium Business Corp. jointly hosted the first-ever Small and Medium Business Consulting Conference on Nov. 13 at the Prima Hotel in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, with some 350 consulting experts in attendance.

The purpose of the event was to bring together government officials and civilian consulting experts in one venue to examine academic results of consultations with SMEs and hold discussions on government policy direction.

¡°Consulting, SME Start-ups and Venture Enterprises Globalization¡± was the theme for the gathering, which had two sessions. The first session dealt with global scholars and high-level experts participating in a discussion on government policy direction to support SMEs and consulting infrastructure at home and overseas.

Chairman Yigal Erlich of Yozma Group of Israel, which is a global startup and venture enterprise, and Chairman Dunbar Kocaoglu of the International Technology Management Society, joined in a discussion to talk about their experience on consulting technology reform enterprises in both the U.S. and Israel. They had a deep discussion on consulting on SMEs in Korea and the roles played by the government and the civilian sector.

In the second session, the government and the private sector were presented with various information and data on consulting. SMBA announced policies to support SMEs in their consulting efforts, and Consulting Graduate School announced he results of their academic research on consulting. Also, the private sector discussed successful examples of consulting.

SMBA and the Yozma Group signed an business cooperation agreement to help Korean SMEs advance overseas, while the International Technology Management Society and Korea Consulting Society also signed an agreement on continued exchanges and cooperation.

Director Han Jung-hwa said the gathering was very useful in that, for the first time, academics, industry and government got together at a meeting and shared information and data on SME consulting, and discussed what they can do to help SMEs develop further.

In the meantime, the Small and Medium Business Corp. won the Presidential Citation for holding the 2015 SME Collaboration Movement on Oct. 28 and also for its contribution for helping SMEs with cooperation and providing support for collaboration.

SBC in 1994 set up the Korea Different Business Firms Exchange Federation, which later became the SME Collaboration Central Cooperatives. 

The federation now has branches throughout the country with some 320 units for exchanges among the different business areas centered around the 13 regional units of the SME Enterprise Collaboration Central Cooperatives, which helped SBC to win the Presidential Citation for its great work.

An SBC official said it is important for business firms in different areas of business to get together to collaborate in many areas of their operations, including technology to create new businesses and SBC plans to continue to support exchanges among business firms.

SBC and Yosma Group of Israel will cooperate closely on many areas including overseas advancement by SMEs in Korea, the creation of jobs for youths in Korea, growth-sharing enterprise investment support areas, among others, based on the agreement they signed during the event. They will jointly manage the exchange program. 

SBC will recommend to Yozma Group a number of Korean SMEs, such as SMEs for consulting support, youths start-ups with great growth potentials and growth-sharing enterprises for investment support, among others and the Israeli business group will in turn provide consulting services to the recommended Korean SMEs, give them chances to attract investments through the Yozma network.

President Lim Chae-woon said SBC and Yozma Group, a world-renowned consulting service group, will cooperate together in providing the foundation for the Korean SMEs to advance overseas to expand their business operation around the world.
