Rumors that solar energy generation equipment can be rented as cheap as water purifiers have been circulating around the country, as it would help consumers reduce their water bills without having to make investments, and also remove the financial burden of having to pay large power charges monthly.
Korea Energy Agency¡¯s ¡°green solar energy rental project¡± was kicked off to spur the government¡¯s ¡°3.0 Program,¡± which is tailor-made for people and new energy business. The end-goal is that its Solar Energy Home Supply Project would be spun off into a civilian business, so that the consumers would rent solar energy generation facilities from business owners, and they would be able to recover their investments in the solar energy business with that income.
In order for the Government¡¯s 3.0 Program to be fully realized, the KEA has eased the requirement for the solar energy home rental program so the owners of homes with power consumption of 350 kw/h can participate in the program from 500 kw/h per house. Last year, the company provided solar energy generation equipment with the capacity to generate 3kw to 2,006 homes around the country.
This year, the KEA set the target to supply solar energy generation equipment to 5,000 homes, including homes with multiple families sharing, and already some 90 percent of the target has been achieved in the first four months.
The government and KEA plan to boost the number of the homes to 7,000 next year and to 10,000 in 2017 to bring the homes with rented solar energy generation equipment to 24,500.
As a guardian of Korea's sound economic development and better quality of life, Korea Energy Agency has been at the forefront of efficient and rational energy use in Korea, since its establishment in 1980.
The KEA has been at the center of laying the foundation for a low energy consumption society and mainstreaming an energy efficient culture, from energy audit services that identify energy saving potential in energy intensive business sites, to ICT based optimization of energy use patterns in industrial and buildings sector.
The KEA has been lighting up Korea's energy future by securing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind energy, and by guiding ways to use less energy for more electric appliances, buildings and transport, KEA has become an expert organization in energy efficiency.
The KEA is now preparing for another leap to wider horizons.
In a global energy environment where the focus is being shifted from supply side management to demand side management, and from government-led mechanism to market-led mechanism; KEA is ready to add vitality to the creative economy, by pioneering to create an autonomous energy ecosystem based on new energy businesses and new markets.
As part of our social responsibility, energy voucher program will alleviate the difficulty of low-income people, and we will work to earn higher trust in the energy sector as a reliable partner for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The so-called ¡°KEA389¡± summarizes Korea Energy Agency's new goal by 2025: KEA will endeavor to create a market worth 3 trillion KRW (US$3 billion), supply 8 percent of total primary energy supply with New and Renewable Energy and save 9 percent of total final energy consumption.
