24(Sat), Oct, 2015

Korea Electric Power Corp. President Cho Hwan-eik delivers an opening speech at the Bitgaram International Exposition of Electric Technology 2015 (BIXPO 2015).

The Bitgaram International Exposition of Electric Technology 2015 (BIXPO 2015) wrapped up its three-day run at Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju on Oct. 14.

The expo attracted some 2,000 electric/electricity businesspeople and experts from 40 countries. Some 200 company and organization exhibition booths were set up during the expo, which was hosted by Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO).

Roughly 30,000 spectators got a glimpse into the present and future of the electric/energy industries.

Korean companies held talks on exports worth a combined $672.32 million (769.8 billion won) with foreign concerns.

KEPCO signed eight MOUs in the electricity and energy fields with Korean and foreign concerns, including Brazilian state-run power company FURNAS, Bhutan Power Corp., and LSIS. The MOUs KEPCO has signed and the display of its new technologies are likely to earn KEPCO a series of orders.

KEPCO inked deals to transfer power and energy technologies the company owns to 10 Korean concerns, which in return are expected to reap additional sales worth an estimated 35 billion won. KEPCO signed a deal to share technologies with two Korean companies free of charge.

An explanation seminar designed to publicize the development of the Bitgaram Energy Valley attracted some 70 Korean and foreign power and ICT companies.

¡°BIXPO 2015 is the world¡¯s first integrated international expo in the power/energy field, which is the first such one hosted KEPCO since the company was relocated to the innovative city of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do,¡± said KEPCO President Cho Hwan-eik. He went on to say that the expo served as an opportunity to publicize the Bitgaram Energy Valley KEPCO is building and showcase insight into the future of Korea¡¯s new energy industries.

Dignitaries on hand at an opening ceremony on Oct. 12 included KEPCO President Cho; Chairman Noh Young-min of the National Assembly Trade, Industry and Energy Committee; Gwangju Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun; Prof. Peter Gruenberg of Research Centre Juelich; President Michael W. Howard of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI); and Chairman Alireza Rastegar of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA).

KEPCO¡¯s hosting BIXPO 2015 came after KEPCO successfully hosted the 22nd World Energy Council Congress in Korea in 2013 and the Conference of Electric Power Supply Industry in 2014.

True to the theme ¡°Road to the Future of Electric Power Technology,¡± BIXPO 2015 featured an Exhibition, Invention Fair, Insightful Conference and CTO forum of new technology to create a venue for the exchange of ideas related to electric power technologies

The exhibition provided an opportunity for Korean and foreign exhibitors across the nation to showcase the latest technologies and products to get a glimpse into the current and future trends of new energy industries.

The CTO forum attracted some 40 prominent power/energy experts, who spoke on themes related to the present and future of the global power industry. The new technology conference brought together global renowned experts, including Prof. Gruenberg, the 2007 Nobel physics laureate.
