Rep. Rep. Na Seong-lin of the ruling Saenuri Party from the Kap District in Busanjin, Busan, has been designated as the chief of the Min-Saeng (People's Life) 119 Headquarters. It is scheduled to be set up under the Policy Committee of the ruling party with the Deputy Chairman’s Policy Group of the Deputy Floor Leader’s Policy Team of the ruling party.

Rep. Kim Jong-hoon, chairman of the Policy Committee, told reporters that Rep. Na has been named to head the Min-Saeng 119 Headquarters to come up with new policies as the lawmaker’s strength has been his penchant for coming up with new ideas for new policies during his third-term as a legislator from Busan. The lawmaker served as the vice chairman of the Policy Committee of the ruling party when Rep. Joo Ho-young was heading the committee last year.

The 119 Headquarters, which is to be led by Rep. Na, is a core part of the Policy Committee of the ruling party as it deals with major issues and policies to improve the livelihood of the people playing a key role in the policy coordination between the government and the ruling party.

The role of the Min-Saeng 119 Headquarters is similar to the role the Min-Saeng Policy Reform Committee played under Rep. Won Yu-cheol, chairman of the Policy Committee of the ruling party, but the new headquarters will determine the policies for the livelihood for the people.

As shown during the MERS crisis, the coordination between the government and the party has been a current issue and the measures to solve them, but the role of the Min-Saeng 119 Headquarters will be different It will find out the causes of problems before they occur and come up with the measures early, as has been seen in the case of cutting the price of municipal gas, stabilizing the price of rice and cuts in communication charges. The headquarters help to improve the livelihoods of the people, the chairman stressed.

Kim said the headquarters will find problems before they occur to maintain its public image that the party is always on alert to keep the public lives stable, which is why the name of the headquarters was changed to the Min-Saeng 119 Headquarters. 

They received approval from the ministry in charge of the livelihood of the people.

The chairman also said he will meet with as many legislators as possible to fill vacant posts in the 119 Headquarters so that he can select very dedicated legislators to improve the people’s livelihoods across the country.

Sources said some first-term lawmakers may be picked to fill the vacant posts at the 119 Headquarters with the names of such legislators as Ryu Seongkull, the first-term legislator from Daegu, and other lawmakers who were former government officials, are being sought to serve in the Headquarters.
