The Korea Standards Association (KSA) held its 61st Summer CEO Forum from July 29-Aug. 1 at Jeju Lotte Hotel with some 500 members and their families attending.
Chairman Baek Soo-hyun said the forum was intended to help overcome economic problems by building a base for the Creative Economy¡¯s success and for new economic challenges. He said the importance of learning has been growing more than ever, with changes occurring by the hour, and successful leaders never stop learning through books or making their own observations.
The KSA chairman said continuous study helps top managers make accurate decisions, especially after grasping everything with their own eyes. He continued, saying that in the process of moving from using to learning, a wider breadth of learning is emphasized to maintain balance and address everything with an open mind.
Baek said the top managers attending this forum will have the opportunity to grasp with the latest trends in technologies in key areas like electric automobile and personnel management through Big Data and other matters to upgrade their knowledge. It also gives them a chance to recharge their batteries.
KSA chose ¡°Innovation for Future¡± as the main theme of the forum to suggest a dynamic reform for the management of businesses with invited speakers from the three major sectors — technology, energy and people — to give attendants new ideas from diverse sectors.
On the subject of technology, Vice President Song Gil-young of Daum Soft spoke on ¡°Big Data: Don¡¯t Imagine it, Observe It.¡± Chairman Kim Dae-hwan of the International Electric Car Expo Organizing Committee, gave a speech on the subject of the Smart Cars and Their Future.¡± Chairman Yoon Dong-han of the Korea Kolmar gave a lecture, while 1st Vice Minister Choo Hyung-hwan of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance delivered his speech on ¡°Strengthening Economic Vitality and Realization of Structural Reform,¡± along with the direction of the economic policies in the second half of the year.
Kolmar Chairman Yoon said the second-class companies try to compete with prices, but the first-class companies compete with the quality of their products.
In his early 40s, he quit a very good company and set out on his own in business. He has become a successful businessman now. His speech at the KSA¡¯s summer CEO forum was about the management of talented personnel and technology development.
Special speakers included President Cho Hwan-eik of Korea Electric Power Corp., who spoke on the power company¡¯s past, future and the significance of the company¡¯s share price rising to 50,900 won per share, and changes and reform of the power company, which was received well by the attendants.
Gov. Won Hee-ryong of Jeju Province also spoke on the island province¡¯s industry and its future with a special remark on the island¡¯s plan to attract foreign investments to the island. KSA held its summer CEO forum every year since 1988 on Juju Island to give them time for rest and also recharge themselves with new ideas and inspirations.
