Korea Land and Housing Corp. (LH) officially opened its new office in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, on June 30. A ceremony was attended by a slew of dignitaries from Seoul and local organizations, led by Minister Yoo Il-ho of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Reps. Kim Jae-kyung and Park Dae-chul and Gov. Hong Joon-pyo of South Gyeongsang Province and Mayor Lee Chang-hi of Jinju City. Some 800 people attended when all was said and done.
LH actually relocated to the new building in Jinju from Seoul in April, but the official ceremony took place at the end of June. The new building was completed in March. It has 20 stories with two basement floors, totaling 135,686 sq. meters in office space. It was built on 97,165 sq. meters of land.
At the ceremony, President Lee Jai-young declared its new slogan, ¡°New Flight 2030¡± to open a new age for the company at the new location. The company wants to win public trust by building ¡°happy homes¡± for the people in the country, improving the standard of living. he said the company will build 12,000 houses for leasing in the second half, totaling 26,000 houses for leasing including 14,000 houses for leasing already completed. The Seoularea will have 11,000 of thsoe houses allocated while the rest will go to the local areas in the country. LH has already supplied 47,000 houses for leasing in the first half of this year.
In his congratulatory speech, Minister Yoo of MOLIT said Jinju is well on its away to being an industrial cluster, aided by its ability to build Innovative cities and provide industrial support in fusion with the regional strategic industries. In essence, it will create a new jump off base to lead the knowledge creation industries. The new cluster will be able to boost the quality of the economy, culture and living in the region, helped by a diverse traffic network in the southern part of the province, the minister said.
The minister said the government will provide support to each Innovative city to form a new academic cluster to help the region to grow as a real growth engine for the region.
The MOLIT minister continued, asking for the government, public organizations and corporations to relocate as scheduled and build residential houses, schools, medical facilities, a transportation network and other supplemental facilities on time.
Jinju will be home to 11 government-run corporations and organizations with 3,580 employees. They will move to the city, which has 4,077 sq. km of land, by 2016. The city has 37,000 residents. The Korea Custom Duty Analysis Institute, the Korea South-East Power Co., the National Defense Quality Board, the Korea Small and Medium Business Corp. the Korea Industrial Technology Experiment Institute, and Korea Ceramic Technology Institute are some of the organizations that have already relocated to Jinju.
