Samsung Electronics released its new flagship smartphones, the S6 and its sister S6 Edge on April 10 in 20 countries, including Korea.
On April 9, the Korean electronics giant held the ¡°Galaxy S6 World Tour Seoul¡± event at its headquarters in Seocho-dong, Seoul, and announced the domestic release of the smartphones that Samsung claims will be innovative to meet customers¡¯ needs.
The brand new S6 and S6 Edge sport a perfect harmony of metal and glass. It¡¯s a beautiful and significant design — a wonderful combination of sturdiness, flexibility, as well as curved and straight lines.
S6 and S6 Edge have become the center of attention for global tech-savvy customers since this past March when Samsung Electronics unveiled them one day before the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, unveiling new smartphone guidelines through endless innovation.
Starting with the release of S6 and S6 Edge in Korea on April 10, Samsung Electronics has begun to release them on the market in 20 countries, including the United States, U.K., Germany, France and Australia, as well as other countries on a gradual basis.
In Korea, the new smartphones are marketed via three telecom providers. Galaxy S6s are priced at 858,000 won for 32GB and 924,000 won for 64GB, while Galaxy S6 Edge is marketed at 979,000 won for 32GB and 1.056 million won for the 64GB version. President Shin Jong-kyun of Samsung Electronics¡¯ mobile business unit said, ¡°All executives and staff seriously pondered what customers really want, and we were able to come up with all-new Gallaxys thanks to endless innovation. Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are the products we¡¯ve done our best to produce so that customers can recognize the new values.¡±
It was the fist time in two years and seven months that President Shin himself showed up an event to announce the release of new smartphones. Speculation about Shin¡¯s exit once circulated, so his announcement of the new Galaxy S6s in person indicates his attachment to the new smartphones.
Customers will be more moved when they touch and experience the phones than when they simply see them, said President Shin, adding that more new Galaxy S6s are predicted to be sold than their predecessors. Galaxy S4 has become the best-selling phone in the world with sales passing 70 million units being among the Galaxy series.
Only the Galaxy S6 Edge, said to have already received explosive preorder reservations, may be in short supply, Samsung Electronics officials said. President Shin conceded that there is a limited supply of Galaxy S6 Edge for the time being due to difficulties in the production process, but the company will do its best to tackle the issue.
The highlight of Galaxy S6s is the camera. If the home button is pushed twice, the camera will function in 0.7 seconds even when it is turned off. It is wonderful news for users who use the camera regularly. Customers will find it easy to take selfies.
Customers can use the curved screen to set their five most connected ¡°Edge People.¡±
Samsung Electronics suffered a setback with Galaxy S5. The Korean electronics juggernaut is now enjoying a turnaround, learning a lesson from its bitter loss. The main problem was design. Samsung Electronics has been devoting itself to innovating its design.
Its strategy has worked.
Taking the lion¡¯s share of attention are cutting-edge technologies, including its own 14-nano class 64-bit mobile processer, a display that is curved on both sides, wireless charging and the mobile payment system, Samsung Pay, a far cry from its predecessor model S5. The front and back of the S6 are wrapped with U.S. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and the sides have metal to achieve a perfect combination of solid metal and clean glass. The features are more amazing compared to iPhone 6, which has long adopted metal on its back and sides. The S6 Edge is more extraordinary because of the smoother connection of the front and sides. Without a doubt, Samsung Electronics¡¯ latest smartphones are more innovative than iPhone 6¡¯s flat design.
The S6 and S6 Edge are both 5.1 inches in size, between iPhone 6¡¯s 4.7 inch and iPhone 6 Plus¡¯s 5.5 inche versions. Some consumers claim iPhone 6 Plus is too big to carry. Samsung Electronics has discerned iPhone¡¯s weak points. Samsung has adopted wireless charging for the first time in the world. S6 users need to just put their phones on the charging pad.
It takes 80 minutes for a full charge, sharply faster than the previous 120 minutes. Ten minutes of charging will give you four hours of use. But wireless charging takes more time — 170 minutes for a full charge.
The S6 and S6 Edge sport a 16 million-megapixel camera on the back and a 5 million pixel one on the front, compared to iPhone 6¡¯s 8 million pixel and 1.2 million pixel cameras.
