Hanwha Business Group has been steadfastly conducting social contribution activities based on the group¡¯s tenet of nurturing businesses for contributions to the nation.
In celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2002, the group established a body responsible for carrying out social contribution activities. On the occasion of the 55th anniversary in October 2007, the group founded the Hanwha Social Volunteering Team designed to conduct social volunteering activities in a systematic and large-scale fashion. Hawha Group is devoting itself to putting into practice its management philosophy ¡°Together, Far Away¡± in diverse fields, including volunteering services, social welfare, culture/arts, education/public interest, and sports.
Hanwha is conducting social contribution activities in which its executives and staff members participate on top of its financial support to institutions and organizations. The group is implementing a matching grant system under which each group subsidiary donates money equivalent to 150 percent of its executives and staff members¡¯ donations. The group also has a paid volunteer service system in place, allowing executives and staff to visit underprivileged neighbors and conduct volunteer activities at any time.
Some 70 business operations across the nation operate a social contribution operation committee with the presence of executives and staff to ensure transparency and efficiency. These moves have paid off: the percentage of executives and staff members¡¯ participation in volunteering stands at 93 percent, and the portion of those who contribute funds is 98 percent.
Group-wide joint volunteer projects is one way the group¡¯s manages volunteer activities. The system that made its debut in 2003 and calls for the implementation of such programs as assistance of study rooms, an integrated program for physically-handicapped and normal children and culture and arts educational program for kids.
In particular, the ¡°Hanwha Arts Plus Program¡± serves as an opportunity for children to learn how to preserve and love the environment in their daily lives as well as for volunteer staff to enjoy volunteering. The program won the presidential prize of the Korean Meccena Grand Prix in November 2011 and the Ministry of Health Welfare Minister¡¯s Award in June 2014 in recognition for its contribution to children¡¯s creativity and providing economic assistance to local artists.
Besides, the group delivers love to underprivileged neighbors through such programs as newly appointed executives¡¯ volunteer program, newly employed high school graduates¡¯ volunteer program, and diverse relay volunteer programs. Volunteer teams have been formed and dispatched to provide relief to the victims of natural disasters.
Culture & Arts and Public Interest Programs
Hanwha has been sponsoring the Seoul Arts Center (SAC) Symphony Orchestra Festival for 15 years, the Hanwha Pop & Classic Tour Program that has visited regional cities since 2004 and other diverse performance programs. The Seoul Arts Center Symphony Orchestra Festival is a channel for some 20 Korean symphony troupes and intermediate-level and up-and-coming young artisans to perform, and for the general public to have a wider approach to classical music. It also contributed to popularizing classical music. The SAC 11 a.m. Concert, launched in 2004, takes place on the second Thursday of each month, enjoying popularity from spectators as a classic concert coupled with an explanation, departing from the conventional paradigm of afternoon and evening concerts.
The Hanwha Classic, launched in 2013, showcase world-class artists who Korean spectators normally find it difficult to see. The 2013 Hanwha Classic, which invited renowned German conductor Helmuth Rilling to introduce Baroque music, was a hit. Hanwha¡¯s Rinaldo Alessandrini and his Italian ensemble Concerto Italiano in 2014 received a good reception by Korean music aficionados.
Hanwha was honored with the grand prize of the 2006 Korea Meccena Grand Prix and the Culture Sharing Prize of the 2007 Culture Seoul Sponsorship Award in recognition of its contributions to the development of the Korean culture/arts field.
The Seoul International Fireworks Festival, taking place over the Han River every autumn, is one of the group¡¯s culture and welfare promotion programs. The festival has established as one of Korea¡¯s representative cultural events, and the significance of the program is getter higher.
