Samsung SDS, which markes its 30th anniversary this year, is accelerating efforts to restructure its business portfolios to focus on strengthening its global presence, with the goal of becoming a century-old ¡°super world-class¡± IT service provider.
First, Samsung SDS is shifting its business axis into the system integration (SI) service that can create added values. SI refers to the operation of an information system combining network, hardware, software and other IT-related factors. The reason is that there is no guarantee for survival unless Samsung SDS offers services which differentiate itself from global juggernauts like IBM and Amazon.
To this end, Samsung SDS has been developing solutions and services in manufacturing, logistics, education and other industries by converging consulting, system buildup, IT infrastructure operation knowhow the company has accumulated for the past 30 years.
One particular area of focus is the manufacturing execution solution (MES) segment. MES refers to the provision of support to maximize efficiency by operating all processes across the globe like a plant. Concerns are scrambling to change conventional plants into intelligent ones that can enhance productivity and optimize procurement and inventory management.
In particular, MES assists the maximizing of manufacturing quality and yields through real-time surveillance, using the Data Analystics technology, and reducing default rates by identifying abnormal symptoms of worksites.

The system allows companies to ensure efficient management of supply networks and support an optimal logistics system. It does this by examining logistics at a glance and providing services like logistics risk management and tracking via the Internet of Things. Samsung SDS said Cello is a combination of the latest IT technologies that can forecast demand via the analysis of Big Data and establish global SCM and logistics plans via optimization analysis technology. The solution, being applied to Samsung Electronics¡¯ overseas operation of logistics, was employed for the establishment of an integrated logistics system for Dongwon F&B and POSCO last year.
Samsung SDS has a strategy designed to enhance the competitive edge of its solutions, dubbed ¡°SMAC.¡± SMAC stands for Social Networks, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud. SMAC refers to technologies that emerge anew in the course of a rapid shift of the corporate work environment from the PC-based paradigm to the mobile environment based on smartphones and tablets.
Samsung SDS said it will redouble efforts to provide assistance in changing the corporate IT environment to a mobile mode and raising the productivity and efficiency of operations for each company¡¯s overall IT infrastructure by making the most of the SMAC technology.
