Chairman Park Yongmaan of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has been reelected to serve another three-year term with the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) reelecting Chairman Park, the SCCI said on Feb. 24.
Being the largest of 71 chamber of commerce and industry groups around the country, the SCCI automatically assumes the helm of the KCCI. The SCCI reelected Chairman Park, who also is the chairman of Doosan Group, to serve another term in a regular annual meeting of its 90 members held in the morning of Feb. 24.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Park said he is ready to work hard to improve the economic viability of its members and for the national economy, providing social services for the SCCI, as his reelection means for him to do his best in those areas. Park went on to add that this year is the ¡°Golden Year for resurgence of our economy,¡± and reform and hard work will give birth to the seed of hope.
Park strengthened the chairman¡¯s group with the appointments of three new vice chairmen, Chung Yong-jin, vice chairman of the Shinsegye Group, Lee Man-deuk, chairman of Samchulli Group and Chung Mong-yun, Chairnman of Hyundai Merchant Marine Co.
Vice Chairman Chung said he will only do his best to help Chairman Park to run the KCCI.
Park took over as chairman of the SCCI and KCCI when former chairman Sohn Kyung-shik resigned to devote all his time to managing CJ Group as chairman in August of 2013. Park met with two KCCI vice chairmen before the meeting: Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun of Hyundai Group and President Park Sang-jin of Samsung Electronics. He will officially embark on his s second term on March 25 at a KCCI general annual meeting to represent some 140,000 members whose representatives are expected to participate and cast their votes to reelect Park.
¡°In the New Year, we hope that the world economy recovers from long-term structural recession and bringing back the warmth of economic recovery to our economy,¡± the group said. ¡°All of the economic entities should carefully plan and execute what to do in the New Year so that the fruits of the upcoming economic recovery can be shared fully and the warmth of economic recovery can be spread to all members within our society.¡±
The year 2015 is an imperative year for Korea's national development. This year must be one where Korea wisely searches for what it is that it must do in order to overcome such factors as low birth rates and an aging population, which are limiting economic growth.
¡°We should also find what we should do to enter into the advanced society because Korea is currently positioned in between developed countries that have enhanced their values of economic revival and emerging nations that are striving to enhance their technology,¡± the group said. ¡°The new year will be an important time to remove the dark clouds of uncertainty and achieve stable sustainable growth through innovation of the economic system by taking current difficulties we face today as opportunities to accomplish creative development.¡±
Corporations will actively respond to the demands of these challenging times. By combining the challenging spirit of former businessmen with qualities such as rational decision-making, creativity and the spirit of collaboration, Korea will breathe in a new entrepreneurial spirit into the business world.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the 2015 New Year Greetings Event at COEX in Seoul in the afternoon of Jan. 5 with President Park Geun-hye honoring the New Year¡¯s gathering.
Around 1,300 leading figures from various fields attended the event, including Park Yongmaan, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister Choi, Kyung Hwan, along with leading legislators and heads of four business organizations including Chairman Huh Chang-soo of the Korea Federation of Industries and Chairman Han Duck-soo of the Korea International Trade Association.
