Rep. Kil Jeong-woo of the ruling Saenuri Party, has set the first Monday of each month as the ¡°Day of Communication¡± at his party¡¯s district office in A-District of Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, in which Rep. Kil lends an ear to voices of his local constituents.
Rep. Kil stresses communication with all people and being a reliable leader who tries to make good on promises, no matter how small. He values communication with all people and caring for others. He believes that policies and public pledges that do not reflect people¡¯s voices do not gain their hearts.
¡°Now is the time when there should be new leaders who console people and share empathy with them and trailblaze the road to happiness,¡± Rep. Kill said.
Rep. Kill has diverse experiences. Rep. Kill, a political science major, once served as Korea¡¯s representative diplomat, a journalist-watchdog of society, and an educator with passion and armed with firm convictions.
His motto is ¡°gungjukbyeon, byeonjuktong, tongjukgu¡± — a Chinese saying meaning ¡°changes, which occur in the event of a crisis, will lead to mutual harmony and communication, which will last for a long time.¡± Rep. Kil, who advocates ¡°The Road Leading to Communication,¡± says he does his best by ensuring changes in a sincere fashion by humbling himself.
He is a senior member of the Forum on Congruence, a representative research body in the political and administrative field. He received the Excellence Research Organization Award from National Speaker Chung Ui-wha at the National Assembly on Feb. 13.
Rep. Kil is one of the most active lawmakers engaged in diverse diplomatic activities. He is a member of the Korean-Japanese Parliamentarians League. He participated as Korean chief delegate of the annual session of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO, a joint undertaking of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament. Rep. Kil held such positions as a member of the World Economic Forum and Korean representative of the World Water Forum and a delegate of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians
Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED). He also participated in numerous Korean and foreign seminars.
He has hosted a lot of seminars over the years, including one on Meccenat Act and another on the request to register Jeju Island¡¯s female divers as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Rep. Kil played a leading role in legislation of such as the Act on the Support of Culture and Arts Sponsorships, the Act on the Establishment of the Arirang International Broadcasting Institute, and the Act on the Protection and Use of the Right of Publicity as well as revisions of such acts as the protection and settlement of North Korean refuges and the Act on Food Sanitation.
The representative says his primary Assembly responsibility is to promote the convenience and welfare of his constituents in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul.
