Korea Smart Grid Association (KSGA), headed by Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, joined Korea Battery Industry Association (KBIA) and Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association (KOEMA) in signing a deal on Feb. 12 with COEX to host the Energy Plus Exposition.
The expo, slated for Oct. 20 through Oct. 22 at COEX, will be Asia¡¯s largest. It will attract some 400 energy companies from 15 countries. The fair, with some 900 booths, will display exhibits on smart grids, secondary batteries, power generation, transmission and distribution equipment and materials. It is forecast to attract about 300,000 spectators.
Explaining the background for hosting three exhibitions simultaneously, KSGA Chairman Koo, also concurrently LSIS chairman, ¡°Hosting of the Energy Plus Exposition is not designed to promote superficial growth, but it is aiming at strengthening the competitive edge of the Korean energy industry and spearheading the exploration of new growth engines.¡±
Chairman Koo met KOEMA Chairman Chang Se-chang on the sidelines of Seoul International Electric Fair 2014 (SIEF 2014) last September in Korea and proposed the joint hosting of the three fairs. Koo made the proposal, saying that hosting similar exhibitions separately has less synergetic effects, and KOEMA Chairman Chang accepted the offer immediately.
Korea Smart Grid Expo, hosted by KSGA, Seoul International Electric Fair and KOEMA, took place at COEX last year, and InterBattery, held at KINTEX last year, was hosted by KBIA.
¡®A Company with a Soul Will Never Fail¡¯
LSIS Chairman Koo declared value-based management based on the company¡¯s new mission, vision and key values, to become a company with ¡°a soul and a philosophy of value.¡±
On Jan. 22 at the LS Tower headquarters in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, LSIS held a value-based management declaration ceremony. The company also announced future smart energy as its new mission and G365 as its new vision to maximize customer values and become a leading global heavy electric company.
Value-based management refers to the idea that ¡°a corporation, like a man, has a philosophy of values, and that all its members should embrace a single philosophy of value to create a company with a soul.¡± By adopting value-based management, the company vows to single-heartedly pursue the company¡¯s mission, the specific goal of its vision, and its key values to become a great company.
LSIS Chairman Koo led the presentation and emphasized the need for value-based management. ¡°We need to lay the foundations from which to take a great leap forward to becoming a leading global company. All our members should have a single unified heart, spirit, and philosophy of value,¡± he said.
He continued, ¡°A company with a soul, and a company with a philosophy of value will never fail. Last year we marked the 40th anniversary of the foundation of our company, and we set 2015 as the starting year for the growth period and as the year of value-based management for the next 40 years.¡±
The mission, dubbed Future Smart Energy, refers to the corporate value by which, together with their main business of electric power and automation, they can create a safe, abundant future through efficient and convenient smart energy, such as smart grids, new and renewable energy, eco-friendly motor vehicles, and high-voltage direct current.
¡°Our vision for embodying the mission is G365: G3 means becoming a great company in the global markets through green solutions, while 65 refers to our 2020 sales goal of 6 trillion won and operating profits of KRW 500 billion,¡± the company said.
To achieve such objectives, LSIS is set to evolve its business structure from devices to solutions, to enhance its products through the convergence and combination of technologies and businesses, and to boost its global capability and operational excellence.
¡°We have newly established our employees¡¯ key values as cooperation, action, creation and the ¡®right way. Cooperation entails communication and harmony based on respect and consideration for others, while action requires the attainment of positive results through professionalism and a spirit of challenging oneself,¡± the company said.
Creation refers to the creation of new values by adopting a positive and open attitude, and the right way means achieving the development of both the company and its employees through transparent, fair and honest performance.
An LSIS official said, ¡°Unlike an ordinary company, a great company has a steadfast philosophy of values that all its members must consistently share and practice. LSIS¡¯s value-based management aims to create a company where its members appreciate the set objectives and feel happy about pursuing them.¡±
